I still can’t believe that the McDonalds was held liable, especially in TX.
You mean the same Texas that let Travis County get away with a phony indictment of the state’s governor?
They were liable. There was a history of violence and police responses to that location.
A sensible owner/manager would have hired security to protect his employees AND customers.
McDonalds didn’t. See the link above to see what it cost them.
Are you kidding? Texas has some of the most lawyer friendly laws and courts in the country. People go out of their way to sue in Texas.
Read the story, the manager was running hip hop concerts and then inviting the riff raff back to his McDonald’s. Even after many violent incidents at the restaurant following that, he refused to hire any security.
McDonald's was beyond a shadow of a doubt liable, if the facts presented in this story are true.
You do not allow people to just "hang out" at a retail place of business. You do not allow shirtless people into your place of business and you sure as heck to not allow hundreds of people to hang out shirtless in your parking lot. I am surprised this McDonalds was not fined and shutdown by local government.
If I saw anything remotely close to what was going on there at my little beer joint I'd immediately shut the place down and tell everyone to go home. (Which I have been known to do on rare occasions) Customer safety is a primary responsibility of every business owner.
They deserved to be sued. Affirmative action hiring is not a logical way to run any business, private, government or otherwise. It bit McDonalds on the butt big time.
