".......Lehmberg, who plead guilty and accepted a 45-day jail sentence, has declined to comment about the case. But the Travis County Democrats issued a statement calling Perrys tactics character assassination and deflection.
We didnt expect Gov. Perry to take responsibility for his actions, but smearing Rosemary Lehmberg and complaining the indictment was political does not answer the charges, said Joe Deshotel, a spokesman for the county party.

“You cant shut down Travis Countys PIU office. Why? Because its not a state agency, and any county in Texas can have one. They are created to deal with a high number of cases concerning public fraud and corruption. Austin has one because its at the center of government where a lot of those crimes take place. Harris county has one, so does Dallas county and Cameron county.”
You can’t shut it down but Perry slowed it down by removing state funds.
Drinky McSwerveandcrash
I don’t care who ya are, that right there’s funny.
Over 50 percent of the “news” reporters/ettes are democrat.
Reporters will take the side of democrats and smooth over their lawlessness, dope taking, out and out lies,(pRESIDENT)and will always blame a Republican.
This whole thing is going to bring to a head the issue of systematic Democrat slandering of Republican politicians. The way to illustrate it is less to defend this particular, ongoing case as it is to draw attention to its similarities to so many other Republicans who were targeted unfairly and have long since been vindicated. That takes away the fog ofwarcurrent events. There is the Sarah Palin case, in which she found it financially necessary to resign the governorship of Alaska - for, as events turned out, no substantive reason. And there was Senator Ted Stevens, prosecuted illegally (but not vindicated until after the election which he lost). And, the Texas Air National Guard Memo hoax. Which, admittedly, was not done through the legal system. How many more am I forgetting?Raymond James "Ray" Donovan (born August 31, 1930) is an American businessman and former politician. He served as U.S. Secretary of Labor under President Reagan. In a highly publicized 1987 case,[1] Donovan and six other defendants were indicted by a Bronx County, New York, grand jury for larceny and fraud in connection with a project to construct a new line for the New York City Subway, through a scheme involving a Genovese crime family associate and a minority-owned subcontractor.[2] Schiavone Construction was obligated to subcontract part of the work to a minority-owned enterprise. The essence of the charge was that because the minority owned firm (Jo-Pel Contracting and Trucking Corp) leased equipment from Schiavone, that it was not truly independent of Schiavone.
On May 25, 1987, Donovan (and all of the other defendants) were acquitted, after which Donovan was famously quoted as asking, "Which office do I go to to get my reputation back?"
Two other Travesty County DA prosecutions, conducted by the drunk's predecessor -- Ronnie Earle. Specifically, Cong. Tom Delay and Sen. (to be) Kay Bailey Hutchison.
Then, there is Gov. Scott Walker's case -- his name was drawn thru the mud by an anonymous prosecution on a trumped-up charge!
I'm certain there are still more.
We're in agreement, though, the trend needs to be pointed out, highlighted...and stopped. The "criminalization of political differences" is one gateway to a totalitarian one-party state. See Stalin, Jozef and Chavez, Hugo.
How that danger can be dramatized and communicated via a hostile media, however, is unclear.
Yes, that is the fundamental problem, belling the cat. Of course, in a primary debate, no Republican will try to exploit this perversion of justice. Anyone who tried would be ridiculed mercilessly.I am frustrated with the failure of Dinesh DSouza to reject the legitimacy of the campaign finance reform law which he violated. Because had he appealed, SCOTUS would have a chance to throw CFR out completely as they should have done before - and as they would do now (on the track record of the present Court).
Wire service journalism is a continual meeting of all major journalists, which has been going on since before the Civil War.
People of the same trade seldom meet together, even for merriment and diversion, but the conversation ends in a conspiracy against the public, or in some contrivance to raise prices. - Adam Smith, Wealth of NationsJournalists conspire to promote the idea that journalists are the Fourth Estate - i.e., that journalists are super-citizens who deserve deference and respect, and rights not available to the general public. Including the passage of McCain-Feingold, which presumes to censor everyone but the membership of the Associated Press (at critical election times).
Perry’s under INDICTMENT from cutting off half of their funding...how did he manage that, if it’s not funded by the state?
It’s voluntarily funded by the state. Each DA is funded by the county they are based in. Ronnie Earle just managed to get the state to chip in to his PIU.
Well, then, as someone else suggested, put the ones that investigate state officials under the AG, so the STATE can vote on who runs things, rather than the people of Austin alone.
and stinking ...
You’re missing the point. The Travis PIU is not exclusive to prosecuting state officials. It just happens to be a matter of jurisdiction because most of the crimes occur in Travis County. If bribery had occurred in Dallas County, then the Dallas PIU would have investigated/prosectud. The state has little to no investigative/prosecutorial arm. What you’re asking for, is basically for the state to create it’s own FBI. I don’t like my government making itself bigger and more powerful.
