“You can’t shut down Travis County’s PIU office. Why? Because its not a state agency, and any county in Texas can have one. They are created to deal with a high number of cases concerning public fraud and corruption. Austin has one because its at the center of government where a lot of those crimes take place. Harris county has one, so does Dallas county and Cameron county.”
You can’t shut it down but Perry slowed it down by removing state funds.

Reporters will take the side of democrats and smooth over their lawlessness, dope taking, out and out lies,(pRESIDENT)and will always blame a Republican.
This whole thing is going to bring to a head the issue of systematic Democrat slandering of Republican politicians. The way to illustrate it is less to defend this particular, ongoing case as it is to draw attention to its similarities to so many other Republicans who were targeted unfairly and have long since been vindicated. That takes away the fog ofwarcurrent events. There is the Sarah Palin case, in which she found it financially necessary to resign the governorship of Alaska - for, as events turned out, no substantive reason. And there was Senator Ted Stevens, prosecuted illegally (but not vindicated until after the election which he lost). And, the “Texas Air National Guard Memo” hoax. Two other Travesty County DA prosecutions, conducted by the drunk's predecessor -- Ronnie Earle. Specifically, Cong. Tom Delay and Sen. (to be) Kay Bailey Hutchison.
Then, there is Gov. Scott Walker's case -- his name was drawn thru the mud by an anonymous prosecution on a trumped-up charge!

Yes, that is the fundamental problem, “belling the cat.” Of course, in a primary “debate,” no Republican will try to exploit this perversion of justice. Anyone who tried would be ridiculed mercilessly.I am frustrated with the failure of Dinesh D’Souza to reject the legitimacy of the campaign finance “reform” law which he violated. Because had he appealed, SCOTUS would have a chance to throw CFR out completely as they should have done before - and as they would do now (on the track record of the present Court).

Perry’s under INDICTMENT from cutting off half of their funding...how did he manage that, if it’s not funded by the state?
It’s voluntarily funded by the state. Each DA is funded by the county they are based in. Ronnie Earle just managed to get the state to chip in to his PIU.
Well, then, as someone else suggested, put the ones that investigate state officials under the AG, so the STATE can vote on who runs things, rather than the people of Austin alone.

You’re missing the point. The Travis PIU is not exclusive to prosecuting state officials. It just happens to be a matter of jurisdiction because most of the crimes occur in Travis County. If bribery had occurred in Dallas County, then the Dallas PIU would have investigated/prosectud. The state has little to no investigative/prosecutorial arm. What you’re asking for, is basically for the state to create it’s own FBI. I don’t like my government making itself bigger and more powerful.
