AUSTIN Texas Gov. Rick Perry said Saturday that the indictment against him was an outrageous abuse of power and vowed to fight it.
This indictment amounts to nothing more than abuse of power and I cannot and will not allow that to happen, Perry said at a news conference on Saturday.
Perry spoke a day after a grand jury indicted the Republican on two felony counts of abuse of power for making good on a veto threat. He dismissed the prosecution as a farce.
A special prosecutor spent months calling witnesses and presenting evidence that Perry broke the law when he promised publicly to veto $7.5 million over two years for the Public Integrity Unit run by the office of Travis County District Attorney Rosemary Lehmberg.
Lehmberg, a Democrat, was convicted of drunken driving, but refused Perrys calls to resign.
The possible 2016 presidential hopeful is dismissing the charges as nakedly political. Perry is the first Texas governor since 1917 to be indicted.
The governor said he was absolutely correct in seeking Lehmbergs resignation, and given the chance to do it all over again, he would.
He predicted victory in the courts, and said that ultimately, the people who engineered the indictment will have a price to pay. Those responsible will be held accountable, Perry said.

Yes! Go, Rick!
I hope Perry prevails. This is indeed an outrage. Call me a conspiracy nut, but I can’t help but think Romney is behind this. He has plans to run again. He is again taking down all the potential republican opponents as he did last time. I know, I know, I’m nuts.
This whole thing just might work to Perry’s benefit on the national stage.
Labeling someone “defiant” is one way the left-wing press lables someone evil.
I hope his sending the NG to the border isn’t another farce similar to GWBush’s putting 6,000 NG on the border — to file paperwork and wash BP vehicles.
Perry has a chance to step up and show some real backbone. If he starts to waver, he might as give up on 2016.
Kick azz with your outsized Texas boots!
Well considering Romney is a RINO, part of the Republican-E I wouldn’t doubt it. Hitlery did the same with Christie even though he’s a RINO. The same week she started her internet campaign for Tyrant, I mean POTUS, that bridgegate thing came out. This is how the Democraps and RINOs work, using sleazy underhanded tactics. They would sell out their own mother if it helps their quest for supreme power.
It is a farce, but we live in an evil world.
Praying for him and for truth to triumph!
May the wicked be put to shame, and may it bring them to repentance before a holy God.
This was definitely a political strike from an arched enemy. I hope he’s wise and fights this with a intelligent legal team. I sure would love to know who set this in motion / the dems in Austin or the Gop-e. Personably, I think both sides are involved.
Politically, this may be a big plus for Kerry, depending on how he handles it.

If Perry is “defiant” then what would these media leftists call Obama??? /s
Now that Perry has been indicted more people than ever will watch the video of Rosemary’s booking. She’s rude, nasty and disrespectful to the police, not to mention drunk! I don’t know how they stayed so composed and didn’t tell her to just SHUT UP. If she represents “public integrity” in Texas, heaven help them.
valiant
It’s probably been shown on here already but worth repeating. The end of the second video shows her holding her hand as if it were a gun and aiming at the person taking the video. Very disturbed person indeed.
Good comments, Shannon.
