The unarmed black teen whose fatal shooting by police in a St. Louis suburb sparked violent protests was a suspect in a robbery moments before, but the deadly encounter was not sparked by the robbery, the city's police chief said Friday.
Ferguson Police Chief Thomas Jackson earlier Friday released documents alleging 18-year-old Michael Brown had been suspected of stealing a $48.99 box of cigars from a convenience store in a strong-arm robbery shortly before he was killed.
Jackson said at an afternoon press conference that Brown and his friend were stopped Saturday because they were walking down the middle of the street blocking traffic.

You are afucking moron.
I suspect Brown went on the offensive because he thought the police officer was looking for him and was going to arrest him.......
Since the terrified look on the clerk's face as Big Mike is strong-arming him contradicts the conjecture, your 'feeling' is immaterial.
There has been a great deal of confusion as to the race of the officer because there are two Darren Wilsons, and both work for the department.
The black Darren holds some type of administrative position, the white Darren was the officer at the scene.
Wasnt petty theft. Force was used to accomllish the theft...making jt robbery.
Story I read says Brown charged the officer
Suspect description was broadcast 9 mins prior to the encounter.
Amplifying details broadcast 4 mins prior to encounter.
The store called the police. Incident opened approx 11 mins prior to encounter.
Responding officer to store arrived approx 6 mins prior to encounter.
Radio calls prior and subsequent to arrival provided description details.
The 911 call taker would have gotten a description from whoever called, if they could give one - may have asked to speak to the store owner, too.
The ‘foreign’ (such as Pak, Indian) store owners for the most part don’t like trouble - for less than $50 of cigars, probably would have been trying to avoid any ‘hassle’ (like police reports, pissing off the neighborhood thugs). That store was targeted for looting last night, too.

Related thread from yesterday.
Uncle Chip and I had a good discussion over there for a while.
Now that would make it very interesting. . . . . .
Who called the police is immaterial, IMO, but having worked retail, I was fairly certain it was the clerk.
Not because I'd read it anywhere, but because of the simple fact I've worked retail myself. ANYONE, for that matter, knows who's butts is the sling when things turn up 'missing'.
It something they teach you on the first day - no official report = you did it. LOL!
Jackson said the officer was aware cigars had been taken in the robbery of a store nearby, but did not know when he encountered Brown and Dorian Johnson that they might be suspects. He stopped them because they were walking in the street, Jackson said.
But Jackson told the Post-Dispatch that the officer, Darren Wilson, saw cigars in Browns hand and realized he might be the robber.
He did a good job on the Zimmerman threads,
but is clueless on dog threads and on this matter.
BTW - Thanks for the link downthread to yesterday's discussion, BlueNgold!

Thanks, feel sorry for the administrative one as these animals are running on emotion
Thanks - 11 minutes ... I think that’s going to turn out to be a factor in this whole scenario.
Has anyone stopped to wonder why a kid thinks he can steal (more than candy) from the store...and then walk down the MIDDLE of the street in daylight with it in his hands?
I second this post.
