Hacktivist Group Anonymous Steps up Threats Against Coeur d'Alene Police Department Over Fatal Dog Shooting

The Internet activist group Anonymous is stepping up its threats against the Coeur d'Alene Police Department, demanding a full investigation of the shooting of a 2-year-old black Lab named Arfee by an officer.

In a video released Aug. 9, Anonymous accused the department of not adequately investigating the shooting, which took place in the parking lot of a coffee shop July 9. According to reports, the officer fired on the dog after he allegedly lunged from the window of a parked vehicle.

"To the Coeur d'Alene Police Department: You have been put on notice," states a garbled voice on the video, after announcing that "phase two of Justice for Arfee" has launched.

"Complete docs [personal data] of those immediately involved will be compiled and our lasers will be prepared to target all relevant websites," the voice says.

Sadly, some FReepers will care more about this dog than about the dead 18 year old in Ferguson, Missouri.

Or about the danger to innocent people who happen to be relatives of the cop.

“Sadly, some FReepers will care more about this dog than about the dead 18 year old in Ferguson, Missouri.”

What does this have to do with the kid in Ferguson? Nothing.

Poor dog, it was outrageous to shoot it.

I guess all cops must be sissy's these days. Dogs bark, growl, sniff. The cop got to close to the car. Walk away. Jeez! No common sense anymore. Black kid trying to run from you? So what? It's not like he's going anywhere, you'll run into him again. Unless the guy is committing a felony in plain view and runs there is no cause to shoot period. Even then, there are less lethal means to stop the guy.

30 years ago I knew cops in a big city who had been on the job 20 years and had never even drawn their weapon much less gunned anybody down. These guys are out of control. People will start just shooting at them as they roll up.

Highway patrol looses more guys then any other department. They pull guys over, the guy has drugs, he's going away for the rest of life, might as well kill the cop. That gives him a chance to get away.

So my advice to all the Barney's out there. Calm down!

Sadly, some FReepers will care more about this dog than about the dead 18 year old in Ferguson, Missouri.

So we shouldn't discuss other topics (and the threads on the Ferguson situation are many) that don't fit the current meme? It's like discussing the drought in the west on Huffington post and people chime in with things like "so you don't care about the famine in Africa? Heartless SOB!"

Exactly. I have friends who live in the Coeur d'Alene area and frequently take their dogs on short car trips and leave them alone in their cars for a few minutes, just as happened in this case.

The police officer who killed this dog claimed that it was "a vicious pit bull." Here is a picture of the dog (a labrador retriever):

The officer further stated that the dog lunged at his face through an open car window. Here is a picture of the crime scene, showing the window down only part way to allow for ventilation for the dog while it waited in the car.

I personally disagree strongly with Anonymous' tactics of naming the involved parties, especially if they include home addresses and names of family members. But, I don't disagree with them that the police department closed the book on this one prematurely and without accountability for the officer involved. That officer has, in my opinion, clearly demonstrated that he's unfit for this job and a danger to the community.

I’ve never heard of a mailman, a FedEx delivery man or a Mormon Missionary having to kill a dog. These cops are trigger happy. “I’ve got a gun and by God I’m gonna’ shoot somethin’!”

I’ve been startled by dogs in cars with the windows partially rolled down when walking by. I’ve never even considered shooting them. I just move away from the car. Is there no common sense anymore?

The dead 18 year old has nothing to do with this they are separate issues. Hopefully the Bad Cop that shot the 18 year old will be punished enough to make other cops think before they execute someone because they are mad at them.

The 18 year old was executed, make no mistake but he bears some of the blame for getting into an altercation with a cop and trying to steal his gun. The cop perhaps had a right to shoot the first shot, but, only the first shot. I do hope the cop is tried for murder in the first degree and not some lesser charge.

Now, back to dogs. Nearly all dogs shot by cops are executions. The dogs are not harming anybody, they are on their own property doing what they are supposed to do, that is, bark when a stranger shows up.

I am a dog owner, my dog is a very dearly loved friend. If a cop were to shoot her for no good reason I don’t know what I would do but I would NOT get over it and forget it.

When I was a kid I rode my bike all over the place. There were ‘vicious’ dogs that would chase us once in a while. They stopped in their tracks when we would squirt them with the water bottle. What kind of cops are cities hiring?

One is a symptom of the other.
Give an egomaniac the ultimate weapon, he will have to see how it works.
Give a wise man the same weapon and he will keep it holstered.
No respect for life, regardless of species.
