A large police SWAT team showed up to a peaceful demonstration in Ferguson, Missouri and the scene is getting increasingly tense, reports Huffington Post's Ryan J. Reilly, who is currently on the ground.
Soon after the team of more than 70 officers came on the scene, they told protesters they needed to leave the area and that "this [was] not open for discussion," Reilly tweeted. MSNBC reporter Trymain Lee tweeted that police told the crowd, "Go home, return to your vehicles. The protesters responded, "Mike can't go home!"
"Your right to assembly is not being denied," the police said later over a loudspeaker.

Maybe it’s ok to shoot at helicopters if they are police helicopters, is that it?
Ditto...
Both sides are in the wrong on this one, friend. Thugs burning and looting businesses. Militarized police using an excessive show of force. No one wins. Everyone loses.
Do you understand the difference between protesters from that of rioters?
Do you realize that the police were firing tear gas and rubber bullets at sign-holding protesters tonight?
What the hell?...I didn’t see a single post here defending tioy......I think rioters and looters should shot on sight....
But that train left the station Sunday....the national guard should have been
deployed days ago.....the cops are only making things worse....
If you really want to see cop hate on FR....go find a shot dog thread
Am going to agree again ... but then comes a what if ... What if someone was able to utilize a weapon or several weapons and then placed the media into the line of fire. The gas canister or canisters might have been a subtle reminder from the police that the media could be in danger?? Doubt any of the media, in Ferguson, was or has been truly dressed for the occasion if violence should place them in the middle or heaven forbid they (the media) should be harmed by the mob.
You stumped me. I can’t even speculate.
Do you understand that they police don’t want to have anyone in the area tonight? No you really don’t. What would happen if the police weren’t there tonight? Any idea? Do you think the rioters would just stay home?
You’d have a war going on out there. Is that what you want?
The police are demanding people stay off the streets. What’s so hard to figure out about that?
This isn’t unusual after a riot situation. So what do the great law and order folks do, why they throw a hissy-fit because the police are mean.
Good freaking grief!
Well, I can assure you, regardless of which agency is conducting the investigation, they already know what happened at the scene, based on substantial physical scene evidence alone. Plus the officer involved statement etc. etc..
This should not be complex with this much physical evidence...It's a shooting in the middle of the street, with spent casing, gun shot residue, blood, a body, wounds, the gun, the shooter and witnesses.
In addition, due the fact they have substantial investigative resources available due to the expanding scope of this event, this investigation should be near completion.
Youd have a war going on out there.

Actually, what I saw was not a riot, but a protest tonight...I didn’t see anyone rioting when the rubber bullets and gas cut loose...Maybe I missed something.
What you see is a three hundred plus post threat damning the police for showing force after multiple nights of rioting. Is it unusual to have the police in any riot area to shut things down so they don’t get out of hand again? No!
So what do our “Conservatives” here do? Why they trash the cops of course.
What would happen if the cops weren’t there tonight? Any idea? You’d have folks driving by picking off these protesters one by one. Is that a great idea?
The cops want everyone off the streets, and I support that. Too many things could go wrong with the alternative.
Where do you folks get your absolute hatred of the police from?
It’s disgusting!
There is no curfew....what you are describing are unlawful orders.
The national guard should already be there and a legal curfew put in place by elected officials.
So what you are saying is that local police have no right to demand folks stay off the street.
Honest to God, you guys are mental!
Agreement ... but as in all instances of this nature ... time is not always on one's side.
No one has even suggested that gangland thugs rioting and creating mayhem is okay.
We understand that the ghetto thugs are just opportunists to do as they are won’t to do. They are Obama’s Free Shit Army after all.
That said - it’s far more alarming and frightening to the rest of us in the country that supposed “Peace officers” are now more heavily armed than combat troops during the invasion of Iraq:
“Matt Moore @Guerrillascribe · 2h
I did 3 embeds reporting from Iraq in 2003-4. Police in Ferguson images have more body armor, weaponry than soldiers I reported on.”
It’s more concerning to us that police can order the press to turn off their cameras and beat and arrest them while shooting at crowds and firing tear gas at obvious journalists doing a set.
Precedents like this can and will be used by totalitarian governments against everyone, not just ghetto thugs wanting to get free shit and instigate mayhem at the urging of communists and community agitators with an agenda to push.
Given how the cops are acting in Ferguson, it is an appearance that such wonton displays of authoritarianism are a problem there and may have been a contributing factor in the shooting death of an unarmed 18 year old by a cop MULTIPLE TIMES while he was running away.
So I have little sympathy for thugs, whether they be ‘hood rats or those with a badge.
Rioting is not the answer. But then neither is sending in armed ‘security forces’ to show off how big and bad they are with weaponry I bet our combat troops would have wished they had in Iraq.
Without those officers out there, there would be two competing forces out there. You would have rioters and protesters. You honestly can’t see any problem with that right?
The people in that crowd have refused lawful orders to go home. Yes the police have a right to clear an area if the public safety is in jeopardy. And after nights of rioting, that’s what the situation is.
You are waaaaay wrong here pal.....I have cops in my family...so that dog won’t hunt son....
And you waltz in here and condemn everyone?
For the third time directly to you....the national gsurd should be there...not the cops....
What you seem to be missing....justified or not....a cop shot Brown....that means ALL cops will be seen in that light by the protestors and the thug rioters.....
The national guard didn’t shoot Brown and will not be seen in the same way....get it?
Hmmm...Not posted to me, but it's certainly no secret the wide spread and escalating distrust for law enforcement/government has been ramping up in the past decade or so.
And much of this distrust is very legitimate and justified...This is not even debatable for those paying attention.
You said it was a war zone but what happened tonight seemed to directed at a protest, not rioters. No?
Once again....there is no curfew in place....telling you to go home is NOT a lawful order when there is no legal curfew in place.
