Hamas sources in Gaza report that a dud IDF missile exploded on Wednesday, killing five including an Italian journalist, after Hamas terrorists clumsily tried to dismantle the missile.
Hamas emergency services spokesperson Ashraf al-Qudra stated that in addition to the five dead, there are several more who are seriously wounded.
"A number of explosives experts were killed while dismantling a missile in Beit Lahiya. Among them was a foreign journalist," Hamas Interior Ministry spokesperson Iyad al-Buzam told AFP.
The Italian government shortly thereafter named the dead journalist as Simone Camilli, a cameraman for Associated Press. AP confirmed the 35-year-old Italian had worked with them since 2005, and that AP photographer Hatem Moussa was also badly wounded in the explosion.
"Simone Camilli's death is a tragedy for his family and for the country. Once more a reporter pays the price for a war that has lasted too many years," said Italian Foreign Minister Federica Mogherini.
Muayin al-Masri, a spokesperson for Kamal Adwan hospital, stated earlier that the five dead included four Gaza residents and a foreign national. He added that five others were wounded, three of them in critical condition.

It’s clear they never watched , Danger UXB
The blue wire first!!
Turns out the “dud” was the most accurate one released.
Looked at the picture and the only thing I could think; Cleaning out the gene pool.
F’n ‘tards think they are Rocket Scientists.
Hey Achmed, hold muh tea.
well...they were experts, so they didn’t have to!
Too bad for the reporter.
The explosives in that case could have contributed to many Hamas terror weapons.
hehehe
Apparently, it wasn’t a “dud”. It sounds like it worked pretty well as intended.
Zero told us they are, they built NASA.
Those Israelis are so smart!! ..not so much Journalist.
It would appear to me, they were not quite the experts they thought they were. I wonder if they got their 72 virgins?
I'm going to go with, none of the dead were experts.
Waiting for the media to blame Israel for this, you know they will
I was never an EOD tech, but I’ve worked with enough to know some of the basic rules of the game. Upon finding unexploded ordnance:
1) Establish a perimeter around the device; put security in place
2) Evacuate all unnecessary personnel (including civilians)
3) Ensure everyone except EOD stays outside the perimeter (including pesky reporters)
4) EOD takes required steps to render the device safe, while taking all necessary safety precautions
5) Remove the disarmed device or blow in place, as the situation warrants
6) Once the area is cleared, remove the perimeter and allow other military personnel and/or civilians back into the zone
Compare that to the “dud” in Gaza. The “experts” probably stumbled across a 500 or 2,000 pound bomb and figured they had the explosives for their next IED or car bomb. No perimeter around the weapon and I wouldn’t be surprised if they invited the AP videographer to document their work. I’m also guessing the AP staffer was sympathetic to the Palestinian cause, so he agreed. If the “journalist” accepted such an invitation, he was an absolute fool, and paid for it with his life.
Great series!
