I had a surprise last night. I watched a PBS documentary about Jimmy van Heusen. I knew a lot of the songs he wrote with various lyricists and how he ended his career in a musical partnership with Sammy Cahn. What I didnt know until last night was that he and Sammy wrote this song.
I always liked this tune because it opened a window into what a 1920's recording would have sounded like had it been recorded on modern equipment. I also found the lyrics to be wonderfully funny. Anyone who can turn Sodom-and-Gomorrah into an adjective has my undying admiration.

I once came up with a song because the ice machine was empty at work and someone had told me it was full.
So I asked “How full is your ice when it’s empty?”
and into my head popped the lyrics:
How full is your life when it’s empty
How much is it worth when it’s free
Sometimes in the crowd you’re lonely
and you’re always awake when you dream
