I have read some about the riots goind on due to the shooting death of Michael Brown and it started me thinking of something. I do not want anyone reading this post to think I sympathize with the rioters. I do not. But I think we should start to seriously question eitehr the training of police or how they recruit.
I do not know how this esculated into a shooting. I have read and heard that police ordered a kid to walk on the sidewalk and not the street and it got nasty from there. However, not a week goes by that a story hits the news about some bad action by a police officer. Whether it is beating up a homeless woman, a mistaken home entry, shooting a dog (lots of those), whatever. If it was always in one city or local, than a person could say something is wrong with the police procedures or leadership of that area. But when it happens across the nation, that leads me to think that something is seriously wrong with either police training procedures or the type of people that become police officers.
What say you Freepers?
So we would only need a few thousand patriots in every major city to overthrow this tyrannical yoke?
>>Which goes back to what I asked earlier - do we have to obey everything coming out of police officers mouth? <<
That’s the smart way of doing things. Let your attorney fight it out in Court.
>>he ran, quite fast, again in front of my car to block me from moving...<<
That’s when I would have intentionally run his butt over thinking he’s trying to get me to stop so his gang can carjack my pickup.
>>Why is there a SWAT team? Who will they use it against?<<
Call them and ask.
The last official number that I recall is there is total of 7.5 million armed personnel in the USA. This includes military troops and law enforcement officers with the authority to arrest who are employed by the feds, states, counties and cities. I don’t think this included state guard / national guard troops. Maybe it did. I’m not sure.
Out of this 7.5 million how many can walk five miles in a day, three days in a row? Probably less than 50% from the number of overweight cops I see every year.
I have no idea what percentage of cops fall under the thug classification but I would doubt it is 10%. The rest of the cops don’t truly support the thugs. You do the math.
Go into the search for FreeRepublic and check “police”.
Read the articles. It doesn’t just apply to “meth” counties. And even in those places most people there don’t riot, don’t do drugs, etc.
No You’re right—I thought I was responding to another thread.
I understand your position. But people walking in the streets is a hazard to no only people driving on those streets but also to those in the street. If the walker was clipped by a car, here comes the lawsuit, possible medical expenses, etc., all acts against the public interest. From the facts, the police told the walker to get back on the sidewalk, which is a proper warning. Apparently the walker refused. Bad move. The whole thing then escalated. Again, based only on some of the “facts” presented, I support the blue on this one.
I respect your opinion. There are details that have not emerged I’m sure. I nevertheless believe that holding police officers to be above the citizenry in any way is foolish and destructive to liberty. The sound of a policeman’s command should be met with instant compliance? That is truly a tyrannical point of view. Appeals to public safety notwithstanding,a man is dead, quite
likely as a direct result of the cop in this case feeling disrespected.
To top this off, the policeman’s identity is being withheld for his safety. A special class, they are.
Wow, the family was very forgiving.
Ok, if it is not illegal to walk in the street, I agree with your every point. I find that hard to believe, though. That it occurs everyday in your neighborhood is irrelevant! Laws are enforced in different ways in different areas, unfortunately, but if actually a law, it still is illegal.
The resulting killing seems waaaay excessive. No doubt. However, if a law is being broken by the defendant, the defendant puts himself at the risk of being approached by LE. And actually, that is the way it should be for everyone. Aside from that, no, a police command need not be met with instance compliance.
This one did. Compliance wasn’t immediate and a man died. Shot what? 10 times? For the crime of not adopting a sufficiently subservient attitude in the presence of police power. There is no justification for the cop escalating the situation to that level over a traffic infraction. No amount of copsplaining will ever be sufficient.
