The Ebola virus that has killed scores of people in Guinea this year is a new strain evidence that the disease did not spread there from outbreaks in some other African nations, scientists report.
"The source of the virus is still not known," but it was not imported from nearby countries, said Dr. Stephan Gunther of the Bernhard Nocht Institute for Tropical Medicine in Hamburg, Germany.
He led an international team of researchers who studied the genetics of the virus and reported results online Wednesday in the New England Journal of Medicine.

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.
The purpose of the Bring Out Your Dead ping list (formerly the Ebola ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.
So far the false positive rate is 100%.
At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the Bring Out Your Dead threads will miss the beginning entirely.
*sigh* Such is life, and death...
“Weaponized. Version?”
Yes, released in West Africa then brought into US by their agent (Obama).
Plausible deniability.
Wrong. A mutation almost always causes death to the mutated cell.

The Discovery Institute has some excellent articles that explains why mutations can’t generate new, complex forms.

Maybe, but obviously that's not always the case -- witness the obvious evolutionary success of this new strain of ebola.
That is not exactly true. British Doctor: 'Shocking' How Healthy African Ebola Patients Look Before Death
Seemingly "healthy people" can spread the disease.
Hate to tell you but that idea has already flown the coop.
The Nigerian nurse that worked on the diplomat, passed Ebola on to a different patient while not being symptomatic.
This thing is not the old Ebola.
Yes and no. It is correct that external signs of the disease often don’t occur too obviously before death, but while they might *look* healthy, they do not in any way *feel* or *act* healthy. And again, they feel awful for about five days, then they are incapacitated for another five before dying.
Fever, Severe headache, Joint and muscle aches, Chills and Weakness are initial symptoms. Over time, symptoms become increasingly severe and may include:
Nausea and vomiting
Diarrhea (may be bloody)
Red eyes
Raised rash
Chest pain and cough
Stomach pain
Severe weight loss
Bleeding, usually from the eyes, and bruising (people near death may bleed from other orifices, such as ears, nose and rectum)
Internal bleeding
With all of this, externally the doctor may be right, that they “look okay”. But it should be abundantly clear, even to laymen, that they are extremely sick.
"What shocking is how healthy the patients look before they die and how quickly they decline."
"A number of the Ebola patients I've seen look quite fit and healthy and can be walking around until shortly before their deaths."
This is number six. Each strain has been a new one.
LOL. Thoroughly discredited embarrassment of an organization. Let me know when they publish a peer reviewed paper on.... anything.
You are aware that this article is about a mutated strain of ebola, right? That's evolution.
Again, this is external appearance. The same could be said for somebody with many severe diseases. I think the doctor just had a poor choice of words.
Actually the “ Hot Zone” was nonfiction.
But that’s no fun. Conspiracies are much more fun.
“The Discovery Institute
LOL. Thoroughly discredited “
I am not out laughing out laud because I have actually read their stuff.
The Discovery Institute is composed of Ph Ds with long lists of publications.
Anyone with an open mind can check it out. Great organization really.

I'm sure the Scientologists have a "think tank" that could make the same claim. They're still a discredited joke -- they don't do actual research, they've been cut off by the Templeton Foundation and most of their other (credible) funders from being frauds, and when their claims came before a federal judge they were laughed out of court.
Anyone still following this thread may want to check out Stephen Myers’ book Darwin’s Doubt.
The last three chapters cover alternatives to neo Darwinism that are being proposed by proponents of naturalist evolution troubled by problems with current theories. Really fascinating.
