Teen marijuana use has fallen in Colorado since the state legalized the drug in 2012, according to a new report, bucking a nationwide trend of overall increases in teen use.
Thirty-day marijuana use fell from 22 percent in 2011 to 20 percent in 2013, and lifetime use declined from 39 percent to 37 percent during the same two years, according to an emailed press release from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.
Colorado legalized marijuana for adults in 2012 and statewide retail sales of the drug which is still illegal under federal law began in January.
Anti-legalization groups have long claimed that eliminating criminal penalties on adult use would lead to a spike in use by young people, but the opposite seems to be happening.

No thrill in the chase, so to speak. Like when alcohol was made legal after prohibition. Now the thrill will be in other drugs that are still illegal (until they become legal).
Well, this explains the drop in traffic accidents.
How does anyone even begin to determine this in such a short period of time especially when those queried are frigen stoners?
Choom gang moved outta CO?
Why would government workers lie, right? ...Right?
Clearly, we need to legalize murder, rape and arson ASAP.
Permanent Purge time. If people do less of what’s legalized.
Lol, a likely story. 2% drops? Doesn’t sound like enough data to be concluding anything. More like a political point someone is trying to make.
The teen unemployment rate has been high for several years. More of them are living with their parents, in military service elsewhere or attending colleges in other states with lower tuitions.
ROFLMAO!!! Might solve a multitude of problems ... LOL!
When they raised the age for beer and wine consumption in Colorado, traffic accidents went up, and ‘use’ of the illegal booze skyrocketed. Seems 18 - 21 year olds will drink more when they are no longer served in bars, for some odd reason...
That there was a drop when marijuana was made legal doesn’t shock me... Who wants to do what Mom & Dad are doing after their visit to the dispensary?
BS
Colorado is a national embarrassment bump for later...
sure.
Good argument also for lowering the drinking age to 18....less thrill, fewer binges.
saw in a report that vehicle crashes are up along with more babies being admitted to hospital due to idiot parents leaving brownies and their drugs about
Statistically insignificant changes.
I doubt the conclusions.
Small timescale, miniscule change, easily attributable to normal fluctuation in trend lines or the influence of any of a thousand other wider trends.
But that’s not going to stop people from using non-evidence like this to concoct out of whole cloth whatever hair-brained narrative they’d like to believe.
Actually, I’m guessing seeing how stupid Mom and Dad look stoned is turning them off in droves!
