HELENA Sen. John Walsh said Thursday he is pulling out of the Senate race because his campaign was distracted by the controversy over allegations that he plagiarized a U.S. Army War College research paper.
Walsh, a Democrat, said he decided to drop out of the race. He had canceled campaign events this week as he and his family discussed what he would do.
The New York Times reported July 23 that Walsh had plagiarized large portions of the research paper in 2007.
Walsh will serve out the rest of his Senate term, which ends in early January 2015.
I am ending my campaign so that I can focus on fulfilling the responsibility entrusted to me as your U.S. senator, Walsh said in a statement to supporters. You deserve someone who will always fight for Montana, and I will.
The Montana Democratic Party now will choose a replacement for Walsh to appear on the Nov. 4 ballot, along with Republican Rep. Steve Daines and Libertarian Roger Roots.

People in “red” states must be as uninformed as their liberal cousins in “blue” states.
I think you’re on to something, people in MT are too uninformed to elect anyone good to office.
That’s a shame; Walsh would have helped sink RATs downballot.
Guess he didn’t think he could make up being 13 points behind Daines.
This is yet another example of beating up a candidate too much, too early before it’s warranted. The Dems are better about getting their damaged nominees off the ballot before we do.
I would not vote for a career military man who is a democrat. The two just don’t go together.
“Technically they have until the 20th to do this. If they can find a candidate”
I would be willing to bet the Dems had someone in mind when they ordered him to drop out.
About right!!
**Walsh, a Democrat**
Should be good for the Republican.
Ha!!
The Democratic Party also chose the Republican and Libertarian candidates?
Not unless Montana is morphing into New Jersey. If that’s the case, G-d help us all. (except for libs)
We see how the other side handles a Todd Akin, I’m sure he got a call from the White House. Make no mistake Rightwardho, this is not good news in any way, shape, or form, he would have got a minimal percentage of the vote, which was of course the ideal scenario for Republicans.
I’m not worried we’ll lose though, UNLESS Brian Schweitzer is the replacement, he says he’s not interested but Harry Reid is sending him a care package of hookers and cocaine right now, I’d bet. He has until the 20th to beg Schweitzer to change his mind.
Just in time to boost the Dim's chances in Montana. Did Chuckie Schumer (of CRA fame) play a part in this "timely revelation"?

Woo hoo!! And the first 40% is in!! Thank you all very much!! |
Yep, in our case we must defend anything ‘our’ crackpots say in public like : 'Todd was just telling the truth' (ever hear that before?) .
One way to fight Dems and have some real fun would be to create accounts on lib blogs and attack the most electable Dem in their primary for being weak spineless sellouts, defending the real crazies.(reparations, single payer, amnesty for all, free late term abortions)
I know I could easily post as a radical crazed Dem on a DU site while going through laughing fits, if I didnt have ethics that tell me to fight fair against Dems...
HAHA
They can promise cash and prizes. Since our side values independence, honesty and truth we’re always behind. It’s the nature of the thing.
They cant run Schweitzer after he called Dianne Feinstein a whore.
This is what concerns me. A lot of people were expecting Schweitzer to run. He might get pressured into jumping in after he screwed up by appointing Walsh.
Daines is a strong candidate.....maybe these Montana yokels will wake up finally.....
that's why it makes me so angry to read third party spoilers here on FR.....these people don't know how to fight a WAR....
