Well the Ukrainians won’t need to eat for a while. They have experience with it.

Billionaire Putin tells Russian serfs to eat cake.

I'm going to go out on a limb and predict Comrade Putin and his cronies will still get access to and eat whatever foods they want. Everyone else - not so much.

I sure hope those collective farms are doing better than they used to, or the Russians may be looking at North Korea with envy.

Russia, despite once being the bread basket of Europe,

More accurate to say the western parts of the former Russian Empire including Ukraine, Poland, and Beylorussia were the bread baskets of Europe.

Already having an effect.

Poland is looking at big losses. since Russia is the biggest ag buyer. Apple farmers are already protesting the Aug 1 cut of Apple exports (which represent 0.6% of Poland’s entire GDP), and are demanding the European Union reimburse the loss.

Today’s sanctions will hit even more.

On the bright side, Apples will be really cheap in Europe this fall.

Here’s another one:
Finnish dairy industry could lose 400 million euros if Russia imposes sanctions
http://yle.fi/uutiset/finnish_dairy_industry_could_lose_400_million_euros_if_russia_imposes_sanctions/7397433

And this is just one industry.

As I noted last night, Putin’s response seems to be designed to hurt the small Euro Nations the most. they are the easiest to peel away from supporting the sanctions against Russia, because it doesn’t take much to do real harm to their economies, which are already fragile.

So then the people of Russia will starve as the price of food in exporting countries will go down.

Meat prices in America will fall.

Thank You, Vlad, for another benefit of sanctions.

Billionaire Putin tells Russian serfs to eat cake.

Putin got to where he is by being a shrewd kleptocrat. As post #19 indicates, this is more of the same.

Putin Bans Import of Food From Countries That Sanctioned Russia

Works for me!

I'm waiting for our elected imbeciles and criminal bureaucrats to ban airline flights from Russia, or any flight of any airline that stops in Russia.

For the longest time, wasn't Russia a major purchaser of U.S. grain?
