Proportional response is a stupid, stupid, stupid concept.
If attacked by idiots, a country should respond with a massive, unfair, and egregious response. Followed by a note which says, "Don't try that again, or we'll get angry. You won't like us when we're angry."
Proportional response is a concept which was invented by losers who start fights they know they can't win. Which is why they need to be severely slapped down with no mercy at all.

I think this just about says it all: According to the politically correct left, wars are not supposed to be won anymore. Rather, they are supposed to be engaged in--if at all--in a "proportionate" manner...
