A patient at Mount Sinai Hospital was under treatment Monday afternoon, after being tested after traveling to a country where the Ebola virus is present, the hospital said in a statement.
The man arrived at the East Harlem medical centers emergency room early Monday morning with high fever and gastrointestinal symptoms. The man told doctors he had recently traveled to a West African country where Ebola has been reported, the hospital said.
The man has been placed in strict isolation and is undergoing various tests to determine the cause of the symptoms, the hospital said.

How long do these tests take?
Why won’t they name the country this sick guy came from?
There are huge populations of Ghanians, Senegalese, and Nigerians in NYC.
” And politicians will continue to serve the interests of big money right up to the day that the fourth horseman of the apocalypse rides into town carrying the plague.”
This is one reason things are so bad in West Africa right now. Governments delayed quarantine and travel restrictions because they didn’t want the western corporations to leave.
Yesterday, a hospital "spokesperson" said that no information would be released to protect the patient's "privacy."
Supposedly, results will be released in “a day or two.”
You’d think the corporations would have enough sense to realize that containing Ebola is in their own interest as well.
But I think it’s a dynamic similar to the housing bubble. A few voices in the wilderness had long been warning that a serious problem was developing in the housing market. But firms making a fortune off of the bubble didn’t want to hear it and ignored or even laid off their own risk officers. And politicians weren’t about to interfere with a status quo that was making their donors a lot of money. So the bubble was allowed to go on until it blew up.
I expect nothing will be done to impose quarantines or travel restrictions unless and until Ebola shows up in the first world in a big way.

There were Leper Colonies and TB Sanitariums. They were for the patients' care and to keep from spreading disease.
Probably would not be allowed now. If I had Leprosy or TB I would WANT to be where there was specific care without fear of passing disease on.
I was in Isolation once with C-Diff. Believe me, I was so sick I was glad to be isolated. I got really good care and did not feel at all slighted to be there. In isolation I didn't fear I would pass C-Diff to other patients.

If I worked with TSA I would have already turned in my papers.
"No, thanks....no Ebola for me!"

Makes sense, JudyinCanada. Critical care for the patients and protection for mainlanders.
Yeah but we all know minkeys will throw poo at each other .....see it in congress all the time....:o)
This will not end well my friend..... Nope, gonna get ugly.
This looks like a good thread for one of these...
and so it begins.
