(Newser) The US is treating the American doctor who contracted Ebola, and isn't about to turn tail on the virus. "Ebolas scary, and its understandable that with a deadly disease, people are concerned," says CDC director Tom Frieden, but for those who would have us turn victims away, "the plain truth is, we can stop Ebola. We know how to control it. Were not going to hermetically seal the borders of the US. Were reliant and interdependent with the world for travel, for trade, for the economy, for our families and communities." Frieden tells ABC, via Politico, that the CDC is sending 50 staffers to West Africa because, he says, "The single most important thing we can do to protect Americans is to stop this disease at the source in Africa."
our NAZI overlords will be smiling
We already had one illegal with untreatable TB on the loose. They did find him finally but no telling how many he infected.
Most of our kids haven’t been inoculated for many of the diseases they are bringing in and that makes it more serious. I dread the thought of Polio!!
No telling what they are hiding.
The first position is we must keep Ebola in Africa at its source.
The second position is we can control the disease and bringing it it into the US does not present a problem.
Now let us guess what positions 3 and 4 will be. We know position 4 will be the absolute worse position a government could take, but what is that and how do we get there through position 3 ?
I hope #4 does not turn out to be bringing all the sick in Africa to the U.S. in order to give them the very best treatment possible.
That is a possibility. Perhaps a better candidate for position #3.
You are the one hung up on faggots, but you can't see the people in your cafeteria picking their nose with the little plastic gloves on. Have fun with that.
Sure, the homosexuals will likely die in droves, but that won't be limited to them--and most of them seem to have a death wish, anyway.
It's the average people, the 98% who are already clueless about pathogens, and who will get infected by their habitual behaviours. We've had two, nearly three generations who have been accustomed to antibiotics taking care of most everything, and they are the ones who don't practice good personal hygiene.
Pull your head out of your scrubs and observe the rest of the world--they'll go like flies if this stuff gets out and people who keep harping on the 'gayness' of vulnerability will just make it easier for the average schmuck to spread or contract it because the average schmuck has been conditioned to think of "bodily fluids" as blood, semen, or vaginal secretions--they don't think of surfaces contaminated with sweat carrying a viral load.
Normalcy bias? No.
I am successful at what I do because I readily adapt to changing paradigms depending on locale.
Keep your ICU, pal, I won't be anywhere near it. Why, there are sick people there!
RIP....America!
You keep fiddling and adjusting to your paradigms oh “former ems first responder” and I’ll probably contract a disease from a paradigm shift progressives couldn’t cover up or put a political spin on. I don’t see my self cutting and running when plague victims of all sorts of backgrounds should start flooding out hospitals. Yeah even the “fa——s” you think I’m hung up on.
I am looking at the situation in terms of most likely early vectors not from a moral view point. That includes IV drug abusers as well as heterosexuals engaging with multiple partners in high risk sexual practices. From those vectors the disease can and will spread. Americans are better fed and have better immune systems so many could well tolerate the early symptoms, not feeling as sick early on until their systems just crash.(thus continuing their risky behaviors while actually already carriers) Many cases may be atypical, just passed off as the flu and they seem to recover(but remain a carrier for several months) because our nutrition is generally better so some folks just won’t get as sick. It’s the atypical cases, the silent “typhoid Mary’s” that will be a problem and we will have to learn identify them early.
Now perhaps all will go well, the disease doesn’t get spread, it just dies out because enough folks get a clue and the disease in these African nations where it is rampant gets contained via proper controls and the two Americans to be treated in Atlanta are quarantined properly by the American doctors and nurses who aren’t necessarily accustomed to the extraordinary barrier measures needed to protect themselves. Maybe it will all just be peachy keen....
You also know the crowd that has been running things in DC and you also aware of our border situation and the illnesses amongst our “new friends” that our border agents and other personnel have been exposed to and are contracting as well, from these vectors. Obama’s crowd has been quite busy setting the world afire from North Africa to the Middle East and having quite a bit of fun bearding Putin as well! Now they’ve got this new “Ebola” toy to play political games with, like children with matches!
RIP....America!
( I hope you remain clever with your paradigms and you stay safe. I just have bottoms to wipe and mucky trachs to suction!)
They won’t even seal the borders to illegal immigrants with polio and scabies.

Another step to harm this country.”
and it could be the final step.
Obama Admin hopes to use Ebola to teach the Voters a lesson
Unfortunately, while SARS was still in China, Julie Gerberding (Bush's CDC chief) said almost the same thing, that "It's very important to move away from the understanding of quarantine that we had a century ago, which was really something that was often very unfair and very difficult for the people who were involved in it. That is not the kind of quarantine that we're talking about in the 21st century,".
After the Fort Hood shooting, the Army COS said,Our diversity, not only in our Army, but in our country, is a strength. And as horrific as this tragedy was, if our diversity becomes a casualty, I think thats worse, .
In order to hold a high executive position in the US government, under a President of either party, you have to believe in unicorns and spout nonsense when they turn on the lights.
I wish this was an Obama problem, but I'm afraid it's much bigger than that.
Likely vectors are international travelers and business people (first thing they do is shake hands) who came into contact with sick people or with virons they shed on countertops, handrails, virtually any surface. Sexual contact and exchange of blood are NOT required to catch this disease. Someone washing a corpse for burial can catch it.
While some of them may be homosexuals, I seriously doubt you'd bust the 5% mark if you don't count the stewards on the flight.
You just can't get past the homos and the needles, can you?
The guy who is running a fever who gets off to make the connecting flight after coming back from working in Africa is a likely vector. That includes oil workers, salespeople, and the like.
I'm pretty far removed from the sorts of major air hubs that cater to these folks, and by the time anyone is showing symptoms, they'd have to be really fast to get this far out in the boonies.
Our biggest worries out this way would be getting the local grid back up and food for the first winter. That isn't saying we're immune to being infected, just that we are remote enough to make it unlikely compared to major urban areas. Those areas have the concentrations of people and venues likely to expose the populations to infected people, and literally tons of common contact surfaces those of us in the sticks just don't have.
If you have a bitch to pitch about the intestinal fortitude of guys who wrapped up accident victims (after we peeled the car from around them while kneeling in a puddle of gasoline), go for it Oh ICU controlled environment person). I no longer do the job, because (as I noted) I'm a great grandpa, and not in the same shape I was in when I was 25. At this age, it is best to get out of the way and let a younger man do that job.
Good luck to you (I mean that). You'll need it, because you will likely be exposed long before I will.
