Egypt's Foreign Ministry has strongly criticized the United States after a State Department spokeswoman said the Egyptian government used its military aid "against their own people." ... State Department spokeswoman Marie Harf made the comments Thursday in response to a question about U.S. military aid to Israel during the Gaza war.
Abdel-Atti said the U.S. aid Egypt received was used in combating terrorism. He said: "These condemned remarks reflect complete ignorance and incompetence in understanding the reality of things in Egypt."
Harf's comments refer to the heavy security crackdown in Egypt on Islamist supporters of ousted President Mohammad Morsi, removed from power by the military last year after millions protested against him.

Don’t feel bad. That’s our State Department where “complete ignorance and incompetence” is a requirement for a job there. It would be nice if we could have some maturity in the personnel there. We have the old fossil Kerry and the spokespersons are barely out of high school. OK - out of college but with limited knowledge of anything outside of the college atmosphere...but heck - that goes for the goon in the WH also.

this administration.
The Egyptian hit the nail on the head. Total incompetence and ignorance. Harf was a campaign worker and ends up being state department spokesperson. This country is in big trouble.

That's the bottom line, and that's what's going on here.
Given their public appearance, it certainly seems that way. However, when I was a student at the Air War College, we had a Foreign Service Officer in my seminar. (This is common practice in all the Services' War Colleges: include people from State, the other Services, and allied Services). I was very impressed with that guy. He was intelligent and vigorously defended his views. I have sometimes wondered if he was sent to AWC to get him out of the way for a while, because he didn't seem to fit in with the overall image of the State Department.
We should stand back in awe and admire the genius of Obama’s smart diplomacy in action.

Probably need to have Lurch make an emergency run to Egypt to patch things up (and maybe a Nobel nomination?). If that doesn’t work, they could ask Benghazi Clinton to step up and fill the leadership void!
