“Gunned down”? I notice the left are all adopting “gunfire” as the new word for someone being shot.
In this case a stray bullet him while he was asleep in bed, but I wouldn’t describe it as being “gunned down”.
All this could have been fixed with a simple leading sentence: "At the Brewster-Douglass housing projects on Detroits east side, at approximately 1:30 a.m. Wednesday morning, Jakari Pearson and his mother were struck by gunfire. Jakari, a 8-year-old boy, died from his wounds."
Instead the journalist starts with pure speculation: "Stray bullets blasted through the wall..." - how would the journalist know that the bullets were stray, and not carefully aimed? On the other hand, she could have started the article with "It was a dark and stormy night."
