The "it was a mistake" excuse seems to be holding less water with law enforcement these days.

Get rid of the backseat car seats and get the kiddies up front and see these deaths go down.

How on earth do you forget you’ve left a child in your car?

I’ll give you 5 to 1 odds that his main motivation for fostering was to earn cash from the state to buy his next hit.

Parents should be able to put their babies in the front seat. Before airbags babies did not die in hot cars.

Is this the one that searched on-line for how long it would take the kid to die while the baby was suffering?

Well fine, then you can charge negligent manslaughter. But first degree murder is a ridiculous. This doesn’t fit the perqs for the definition of the crime.

A Kansas foster father who mistakenly left a 10-month-old baby girl to die in his hot car has been charged with first-degree murder.

The "mistakenly" part is the opinion of the writer, despite her stating it as a fact.

If the jury decides it was unintentional, no matter how idiotic and reckless, then it won't be first-degree.

I can be as absent-minded as anybody. Recently spent 10 minutes looking for the pen behind my ear. But I simply cannot imagine "forgetting" about a baby in the car.

Would also like to point out that "safety" concerns have instructed parents to put the kids in the back seat. Pretty difficult to "forget" about the baby riding shotgun. I assume some at least of these incidents would have been prevented had the kid been in front.

But nobody ever considers that something done to prevent Risk A might increase Risk B. They just around and pat themselves on the back for reducing Risk B.

If there is weight on my passenger seat when I start the car, I hear a ding-ding-ding to remind me a seatbelt needs to be buckled. How hard would it be to do something similar for the back seats?

It should hold no water.

You don't forget your kid. I think it is interesting that the boys are alive and the girl is dead. Maybe the girl didn't appeal.

Seth Jackson's lawyer said that the felony charge was far too strict for his client, who only remembered the baby was inside the car two hours later when something on TV jogged his memory.

Two Hours later the child was DEAD Mr. Scumbag Lawyer!

Good I thought when he played the homo card he would get off scot free.
How anybody forgets their kid in a hot car is beyond me.

Locally, a father of 7 was charged and IIRC, convicted, of leaving their youngest in the car after the family of 9 returned from Church on a Sunday morning, and someone forgot to take the baby in. In that case, I did believe the father/family.

I believe that it was this case that falsely confirmed the existence of SIDS.
