The Department of the Navy plans to add enlisted women crewmembers to seven Ohio-class submarines starting in 2016 and to four Virginia-class attack submarines beginning in 2020.
"I think this is just the next step in a process that started a number of years ago to tap into a talented part of the Navy to help run very sophisticated vessels, and to me that's a real huge advantage that the Navy is capitalizing on," said U.S. Rep. Joe Courtney, D-2nd District.
"... Women sailors do a great job on surface ships. They have been doing it for a long time, and obviously, with good planning and accommodation, I think the submarine force stands to gain from having women serve in the enlisted rank as well."

Torpedos will then be loaded in various tubes.. for recreation..
RAM it home sailor.. will be the cliche’ of the day..
Anchor babies? Oops, that already has meaning.
Next part of headline: Navy Lays on Extra Medics in Anticipation of Increase in Pregnancies.
I wonder if the subs will return to port in the middle of their long deployments to drop off the babies, or will they simply create nurseries and have our submariners taking care of the kids.
And will the sailors efficiency ratings plummet due to being exhausted from all that shagging?
It’s a good thing we’re not at war; these social experiments take up everyone’s time and attention.
“Operation Petticoat” is a favorite of mine..
My post 40 might answer that.
Yes, that’s just what the Navy needs - a whole new bureaucracy to test female sailors for pregnancy.
And close quarters aboard subs being what they are, it’s no guarantee that anyone will be fit for duty after all that onboard f***ing.
The old joke comes to mind:
Q. What is long and hard and filled with seamen?
A. A submarine
or this one:
Did you hear about the gay whale that bit the tip off a submarine and sucked all the seamen out?
In the class of 1979 at the academy (pick any us military academy) that class was designated ‘LCWB’
Last Class With Balls
When Polar Icebreakers got their first 25 enlisted and 1 officer female types, 17 got medievac’d for pregnancy before the first cruise ended.
Which spawned the new name for the entire gender of military personnel:
Morale Gear.
It’s a dumb idea, period. For all kinds of reasons, its a stupid idea.
And in 2017, day care will be provided in subs.
What could go wrong???
Special treatment for months at a time?
Resentment to those specially treated?
Next up transgendered cross dressing queens.
The military needs to reflect the perversions of the pop culture Obamanation. The military isn’t needed anymore because Obama has made the world so much more stable and safer.
this is just more of an effort to destroy the military.
Inversion, corporations fleeing the HQ’s from the USA, is just a politically correct way of saying “going Galt”.
what happens when a female submariner ends up pregnant? will there be a mandatory abortion? will the mission be aborted to accommodate the pregnancy?
now with the all hedonism all the time rules, are celibacy oaths required of all crew?
IIRC it's not rare . Easy way out if they don't like their duty.
Not necessarily getting pregnant on the ship, maybe shore leave.
Subs are tight quarters, narrow passages. Three months underwater at a time. Gonna be interesting how this experiment turns out.
No pregnant women on Submarines, period.
Submarines are not equipped to deal with potential complications of pregnancy. Adequate medical attention could be weeks away if something were to go wrong...very high risk. Same reason Submariners don’t go to sea with their wisdom teeth...
orig comments: women have been getting pregnant on surface ships for a long time now, and doing well at it.
going fishing/fish in the water will mean a different thing.
