NASHVILLE — Republican U.S. Sen. Lamar Alexander told cheering supporters Monday that he learned as governor he sometimes had to work with Democrats to get things done for Tennessee and has found it necessary sometimes in Washington to do the same.
"If I stood up before you today and said I by myself brought in the auto industry, and I by myself paid teachers more for teaching well and built the best road system, I wouldn't be telling you the truth either because I had to work with other people to do it," the two-term senator told some 150 or more supporters at his campaign headquarters here in Nashville.
Alexander, who's come under criticism from his tea party-supported GOP primary opponent Joe Carr for not taking a hard enough line, said, "I respect the fact that those of us who are elected are expected not to just make a speech but get results."
"I've tried to do the same thing in Washington, D.C.," Alexander said. "We changed a law to make medicine safer. We changed a law to make student loans less expensive for students."
But he said in the Democratic-run Senate, "I couldn't have done that by myself. I had to work with other people to do it. Some people just want to make a speech. I want to get a result. I'm not in the shut down the government crowd; I'm in the take over the government crowd ... take it in a more conservative direction."
Across the street, some 40 to 50 supporters of Carr marched back and forth on a sidewalk and disagreed.

So does my “conservative” Congressman who is below 50% on every one of the national ratings for conservatives. You would not know it by his TV Ads though. The only thing they should be doing when reaching across the aisle IMO is to land a haymaker.
This “reaching across the aisle” excuse is just that...an excuse. These feckless often dishonest fools need to push a Conservative agenda and get the degenerate DIMs/LIBs to “reach across the aisle”. They never do that. The lies of these politicians get very tiresome and predictable.

The problem, Alexander, is that your speeches are pablum and the “results” you get are inimical to smaller government and freedom.
“Reaching across the aisle to get things done”, when spoken by a RINO, is tantamount to “doin’ for da’ Massa”, playing Steppin Fetchit for the left.
Moderates exist to thwart conservatives and help democrats “get things done.”
I wonder how well this will go over with the average Tennessee voter these days, given how popular the president is.

The only thing accomplished by “working across the aisle” is enactment of my socialist, freedom-impeding legislation, you dumbass.
I can remember back in 1994, when he was putting his plaid hat in the ring for President, Alexander’s early campaign angle was “CUT THEIR PAY... AND SEND THEM HOME!” in reference to Congress and the Senate.
Now that he’s comfortably ensconced in the House of Lords, he doesn’t feel that way.
I’ll give Alexander one prop... unlike that POS McConnell to his north, at least Lamar! didn’t express a desire to smash TEA Partiers in the face.
Just go to show that “moderate Republicans” are, in reality, liberals.

A RINO’s “Getting things done” can be translated as “appease so they can get more votes and power and not have to work hard.”
Some things don’t need doing, especially when you consort with the enemy to get them done.
