Palestinian officials and witnesses said Israeli airstrikes slammed an urban street and a major hospital in the Gaza Strip on Monday, causing deaths and injuries. At least seven children playing in the street were reported killed, and casualties were reported near clinic facilities of Shifa hospital, the most sophisticated medical facility in Gaza.
Earlier, a fragile holiday lull in fighting in the Gaza Strip had been punctuated by Israeli airstrikes and rocket launches by Palestinian militants in the wake of a call by the U.N. Security Council for an unconditional humanitarian truce.
On the 21st day of the conflict, Israel’s Cabinet was meeting to weigh the next military and political moves. In Gaza, the relative calm lasting most of the day coincided with the start of the Eid al-Fitr, one of the most important festivals of the Muslim calendar, marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
The United States and other mediators had hoped to forge a durable cease-fire prior to the three-day holiday, but efforts over the past week failed to bring the two sides together. Hamas has insisted on a lifting of a years-long blockade on Gaza enforced by Israel and Egypt; Israel demands that its troops be allowed to continue destroying Hamas-dug tunnels while a truce is in effect.
Across Gaza, Eid commemorations were muted by the death and destruction visited on the crowded coastal strip during the last three weeks. With more than 1,000 people, mainly civilians, dead and entire neighborhoods lying in ruins, a normally festive time was marked by fear and anxiety.
At a school-turned-refugee center in Beit Lahiya in northern Gaza, displaced Palestinian families overflowed classrooms and open-air corridors. Clothes hung from window sills and railings; bedding and mattresses were stacked high.

I’m confused, are these journalists advocating war without casualties? Can we now have wars without collateral damage, where no women or children are hurt.
First of all I don’t believe this story but if I did, where’s the blow-by-blow coverage of Iraq, Ukraine, etc?
They seem to have an awful lot of ‘schools’ in Gaza.
My wandering mind wonders if these ‘school children’ take recess at the ‘military training camps’ next door.

If you read enough of this crap you would think the Israelies only target playing children. No one tells you the children were playing with AK-47s.
How come all the casualties publicized are always at hospitals and schools?

I strongly suspect the terrorists are killing their own people and blaming Israel. They are barbarians.

Who care. The voted for Hamas. Hamas declared war on Israel, IDF is delivering the goods.
All sadism aside, they could flee to the South and exit the tunnels into Egypt. They could also apply to be tranfered to refugee camps in Jordan, Syria, and Lebanon. Unlikely, but possible. Now that the IDF is calling the shots, bugging in seems to be the only chance for "decent" Palestinians to survive.
