After a spate[??] of shootings across Chicago that left over a dozen dead and nearly 100 wounded, U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) on Friday toured a new federal Gun Crime Intelligence Center, saying, You cant fight a war without intelligence, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Led by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the office will collect data on the more than 7,000 firearms used in crimes and recovered by Chicago police each year, the Sun-Times writes.
You can't fight a war without intelligence, to know where the weapons are, where the shooters are and to stop it before it happens, Durbin said Friday at the center's downtown offices, the Sun-Times writes.

The idiot is delusional. How does knowing the serial number of a firearm used in a crime prevent anything?

I’m sure that having a database of legal gun owners would help them fight crime. /sarc

Hey Dick!
Here’s a thought:
Keep the Gang Bangers in JAIL!!!!
If you quit persecuting law abiding gun owners, and go after the CRIMINALS, perhaps we’d see some progress?!?!!?

And how well it is working for you, Sen. Durbin? The problem is going after the thugs and gangsters, dude. It isn't the guns doing the shooting; it's people doing the shootings with guns. Why aren't you prosecuting the shooters? But, I repeat myself.
To: smokingfrog
We know where the shooters are, DICK. You may find that many look like Obama's son if he had a son. Put them in prison and keep them there, but without the luxuries to which prisoners have been accustomed. Make them work to earn money to pay back their victims.

Better to track criminals.
Clearly it is easy to be a Senator without intelligence.

Who exactly are you at war with Dick?

Agents will work with other ATF officials in Indiana, Mississippi, Wisconsin and other states from where guns are brought to Chicago, the report says. Oh, so the plan is to add seven more ATF employees who will try to spread the blame for Chicago's crime to the red states. That figures.

Mississippi is a long way from Chicago. Why guns would be coming from there I have no idea, unless there is some kind of gangland pipeline from MS to IL.

The government is at war with regular Americans.
Instead of going after the PEOPLE who they damn well know are the problem, they are launching another extensive and expensive program to track GUNS.
As if the criminals would report whenever a gun was changing hands.
As if the criminals couldn't sneak in an untracked stolen gun from anywhere else at any time.
The goal is to disarm everyone, but it WILL be ineffective in disarming criminals. That much is certain.

This is easy!
After collecting some data, it will be easy to determine which digits are most commonly used on criminals’ firearms.
Then any gun with those digits is a crime gun, and must be confiscated before it is used.
