The media can make up anything and it will energize their base. That's what they do. They got Obama elected twice. They did it by making things up in October and energizing their base.

Presidential election year with a very Liberal Black President on the ballot.

This is a mid-term election. Completely different environment. The President's party normally loses seats, and in cases where the President and his policies are unpopular normally gets its teeth kicked in.

What should matter are economic issues, with a decidedly local emphasis. The Republicans do stand a good chance of nationalizing the election based on economic stagnation and Obamacare, which might produce a wave. Having the Party in power nationalize the election on its chosen issue is pretty rare. Bush did it in 2002 based on national security and the War on Terror. But that was a real fluke.

The Dems are, seemingly, trying to nationalize the election based on the threat that the GOP will impeach. That's an incredibly weak case to make, will only work if the GOP gives it to them. The better option is to go all Alinsky and ridicule the hell out of them for trying. Which seems to be the path a lot of Republicans are taking.

Your right, we have to show the country we are nice and play defense to win big. Being offensive might upset those precious moderates who win all the elections. After all Rove and the Establishment say so and they have never lost.

What if you led and America rallied behind you, what then?
