What We Women Want
Townhall.com ^ | July 25, 2014 | Renee Elmers

Just the other day when I was home in Dunn, a woman standing in the checkout line told me that she felt as though she had less money in her pocket. And, unfortunately, she’s right. Did you know that the average clothing cost for children has risen $310 during the president’s term and that food costs have risen an average of $210? Or that an average family of four is missing as much as $1,120 from their monthly budget? I bet women do.

No one understands the true implications of these missing dollars better than women. Women are the ones balancing the household checkbook, worrying about health care and education decisions for their families, and are the ones sitting at the kitchen table at the end of the month crunching numbers to figure out how to cut costs so the dollars don’t run out before the month does. I understand this because I have done this – and still do. Having worked at the local Burger King during high school, and then paying my way through community college and nursing school, I can relate to the pressures that women feel.

Women talk to me every day about the situations they face at work and home, and how they want a government that works to find solutions. My colleagues and I want to work together for solutions too. Our goal is to empower and engage every woman in this country, regardless of political-leaning or socioeconomic status. We are aware of the facts. The sad fact is that for every job the White House boasts about creating, two new people were added to the food stamp program. Additionally, if we were to factor in the number of people who have given up looking for work, real unemployment would be an astounding 10.2 percent. This is inexcusable. Our job is fighting to create good-paying jobs, grow a healthy economy and help hardworking Americans keep more of their paycheck.

So what are we doing in the House to resolve this? House Republicans are passing legislation with our Democrat colleagues to create jobs and get Americans back to work. There are currently 321 bills that have passed in the House of Representatives, yet still await action in the Senate. Just this past week, the House took up several bills to improve educational access and affordability for young Americans—providing higher-ed opportunities to support families and spur economic growth. To further tackle the issue of unemployment, the House passed legislation called the SKILLS Act which helps workers to acquire the education and skills-training they need for in-demand jobs. This legislation gives women new opportunities by providing them with the hands-on training necessary to transition into a new field of work or move up the ladder. Our party is one of solutions, and we are working for the American people to ensure that we are making their lives easier.

Unfortunately, due to the current Obama economy, I understand the need to stretch every dollar. However, surging gas prices, increasingly-high food and childcare costs do not have to be the norm. Fortunately, women have the opportunity to change the status-quo. We represent nearly 52 percent of the voting electorate, and we are the ones who are going to determine which direction our country heads. The woman who juggles a hectic schedule at work, packs school lunches for her children, finds the time to balance her household checkbook, and makes critical healthcare decisions for her family will be the same woman who will determine elections and policies that will influence our country.

Imagine a time in the future, when all women can turn on the nightly news and hear how something actually got done in Washington. Instead of learning about increasing costs or the new bills she will have to pay, she will hear how decisions made in Washington that day made her life a little easier and a little less chaotic.

This is what my colleagues and I are fighting for every day— a bright future for women and all Americans.

I remember watching press conferences when was younger and or young. The press voted 95% plus for the democrats then as is the case today. Questions were posed, at press conferences with a qualifier of “what are you going to do about it?” ... Example question from press corps during that time: Inflation is rising, the cost of everything is going up, what are you going to do about it? The change in questioning has taken place within the last thirty or so years where there is not the “what are you going to do about it” qualifier. The implication, in the questioning by the press corps, during that time, was to state that government had the solutions. Nothing is further from the truth. Government creates problems. Government never solves problems. If Government solved problems, Government realizes they would be out of business. Prime Example: Obamacare. <-— no solutions there, just much larger problems.

Dear American women-—stop voting for Dems your tyrant masters in disguise. And when they scream and lie that conservatives will take away your rights and are out for war against your vaginas don’t listen or fall for the lies.
And stop voting for smooth talking charlatans with forked tongues. And if you are just die hard liberals then enjoy the fruits you have chosen and keep the stupid mouths shut.
And if the light bulbs of truth finally turn on inside then welcome to the team-—lets take America back—we all need you.

It’s been all downhill since women started to vote. And NO, I am not ducking and covering. I stand by what I say.

I'll go you one better: It's been downhill since non landowners have been able to vote.

And I'll go further - Any public servant, tax funded receiver of paycheck or SS, or Welfare, etc. Anyone who doesn't earn their living in the Free Market, should not have a vote.

No cops, firemen, military, officials, SSDI recipients, welfare recipients, EBT holders, and you get the picture.

Hell, don't even assign taxes to government workers. What a useless waste.

If you earn your pay off the FM economy and have to pay taxes, then YOU get to decide how it gets spent.

“Beer, and to see something naked.”

Well there's a LOT of things out there that I would not want to see naked.

no doubt ... original intent, by the Founders, is not followed. Can’t say we weren’t warned, by the Founders. They knew exactly what would occur. These were extremely wise individuals that set out the original intent, and original intent perverted to our present by the less than Founders that have followed. What was warned of has come to be. Is sad but is true.

THEN QUIT VOTING FOR THE DEMOCRAT ‘CAUSE HE’S PRETTY, OR A MINORITY! Mrs. RQSR.

Television is what ruined politics, it all started with JFK, it became all about appearance.

Those dollars are becoming worth less and less but just wait until all the government money printing really kicks in. But who is it that notices the money borrowing and printing? Maybe the TEA party but that's about it.

Midst the acid rock & social upheaval of the late 60’s, “Cherish” sounded so...so....normal!

“It’s been all downhill since women started to vote”

Ann Coulter keeps saying that.

The irony is this; if women weren’t allowed to vote, conservative women wouldn’t like it, but the winners of all future elections would be the candidates that conservative women WOULD have voted for.

No one understands the true implications of these missing dollars better than women.

At the risk of seeming to be insensitive, sexist, homophobic, Republican, and generally no damned good, I will have to say I don't really care what Ms Renee Elmers says or thinks.

The trouble with generalizations is that increasingly, as the society fragments, it is dead wrong.
I have perhaps a greater awareness of price increases in the last six years than my wife has. We both shop, more or less equally, and I have actually tracked price increases for years for necessities that are still not accounted for in the so-called cost of living index.

So I conclude that this entire article is a gold plated example of Bullshit*

For the record, I have been a registered Democrat my entire voting life.

I was along for your program until I got to where you went and compared SS recipients to EBT parasites.

Some people just can't resist subtle distinctions that have huge consequences, but require thought, not knee-jerk reaction.

First of all, only citizens should vote. If every actual citizen were required to read the entire body of the Federalist Papers, there would be exploding heads nationwide for months...

 ”If every actual citizen were”

First we need to teach each citizen proper grammar.

I agree (with the exception of unemployment and SS money - those were taken from our paychecks while we worked); gibsmedats on welfare or workfare are either employed by the taxpayers or kept alive by them while doing nothing, and shouldn;t have the opportunity to simply vote themselves bigger paychecks or welfare checks. In a nutshell, those two groups have destroyed the northeast.
