On Wednesday, House Republicans revealed that at least one Internal Revenue Service official believes that it is possible that the agency did not recycle all of the hardware and backup tapes on which were stored former IRS executive Lois Lerners missing emails. This development may contradict testimony from IRS Commissioner John Koskinen who told members of Congress that none of Lerners emails could be recovered.
The claim came from Stephen Manning, an IRS IT official, and Todd Egaas, director of technology operations and investigative services for the tax collection agency. Both testified in the U.S. District Court in Washington D.C. last week about the IRSs efforts to collect and recover data from Lerners hard drive.
According to Washington Post reporter Josh Hicks, both officials testimony suggests that Lerners emails may still be out there.
The IRS apparently created a help-desk ticket for Lerner on June 13, 2011, when her hard drive crashed. According to that ticket, a mid-level specialist attempted to recover the data that was damaged on Lerners hard drive, but it was unrecoverable.

Perhaps one of the guys who goes to jail if the data can’t be produced ?
Democrats WISH they could bully IT workers like that.... but they can’t.
They’ll do what they can to get the information... my guess is they’ll get plenty. What we need to do is get these IRS folks on the record while they still thing lies will hold...
Uh, oh. That’s a problem. Obviously someone screwed up and is going to lose their job for not finishing the job properly. I see Ft. Marcy Park in this person’s future.
Of course Lerner’s Emails still exist.
They’ve had plenty of time to polish them up...
Somebody finally got around to asking the IT guys instead of smirking, brain-dead bureaucrats pretending they know complicated technical terms such as “glitch”. And I’ll tell you what - I’d be furious if my customers tried to slide out of a lawsuit by telling the world that I’m a chump. And I’d make damn sure that data did magically turn up.
It’s about time IT guys be the hero. We get crapped on so much...
The only way they dont exist is if they were intentionally destroyed.
Even then - even if intentionally destroyed - they'd have to be destroyed by someone who knew what they were doing... That leaves out Lois Lerner. Most IT guys would not be asked because they would testify truthfully. Lois is vile - but not stupid.
My guess is the stuff will be recovered - and the cover up will be equal to the original crime - if not worse.
You don't suppose that any damning evidence might not be "recoverable", do you?
Naw, they wouldn't try to pull that...
I say: TURN THE TAPES OVER TO INDEPENDENT EXPERTS. GET THEM OUT OF THE HANDS OF ADMINISTRATION-CONTROLLED STOOGES.
Bet it never happens...
even if nothing is criminal, they sure look like they majored in bumbleology. Buffoons at best, future jailbirds at worst.
Yes. I even heard Rush talking about about how difficult it is to damage user's hard drives. I kept yelling, "It's on servers.", but I guess he didn't hear.
I wish people who have no clue about this would defer to experts.
No profanity adequate!
Makes you want to reach through the TV and just slap the smirk right off his face.
Looks like IT guys are going to be the heroes once again... maybe this time they’ll be noticed.
