Scientists with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife are warning that streams harboring endangered salmon and steelhead could go dry because of the heavy water consumption by marijuana growers.
During the growing season, California pot farms consume 60 million gallons of water a day. That equals 50% more than is consumed by the entire city of San Francisco.

Two men were arrested were arrested last week at a Santa Cruz County pot farm that state authorities said used diverted stream water and threatened steelhead trout and endangered Central Coast Coho salmon. The raid netted 180 mature marijuana plants from a 6-acre property said California Fish and Wildlife spokesman Andrew Hughan.
An anonymous tip led Fish and Wildlife officials to the sophisticated operation where it is believed that hundreds of thousands of gallons of water had been illegally redirected from the south fork of San Vicente Creek

Environazis, meet the industrial potheads.
One has to love the fact that California will soon become either a third world country...or if they’re lucky...a below sea level part of the Pacific following the big one.
At least the latter possibility will eliminate the drought problem.
This will be interesting. Two core democrat constituencies in direct conflict. Will pot trump the enviros?
Every state that embraces the drug culture will become third world. The users will defend their usage to the end while the walls crumble around them. Itsf no use arguing with a blind man over what color the sky is.
BTW - unintended consequences suck don’t they, CA?

Whatever stuffs the pockets of politicians the most wins...
Those songs and sentiments are only about 70 years old.
Naaahhhhh
‘potheads only need munchies ,water blah ,LOL”
Apparently you’ve never had cottonmouth. ;)
I heard a story on FOX news last night about a california couple that are being warned by the city about using too much water for irrigation (possible $500 fine), soon after their HOA sent ‘em a letter warning them that if they didn’t keep up their yard and let the turf and plants die the HOA was gonna fine ‘em.
Ya gotta love that. lol
A third world country?
Yah, a third world country that produces twice the agricultural output
as Texas, the next leading agricultural state in the nation. That doesn’t
seem to say much for the rest of the country.
that might call for some popcorn...
"That ditch is Boss Kean's ditch. And I told him that dirt in it's your dirt. What's your dirt doin' in his ditch?"
60 million gallons of water per day? Wow.
There are 1100 golf courses in California which require on average 300,000 gallons each. That’s 330,000,000 gallons of water per pay.
Get rid of the gold courses.
California golf courses consume more than a third of a billion gallons of water per day. Is your problem with water usage or marijuana? If it’s with water usage, you should be making a post calling for all courses to be shut down.
Only water the ones where Baraq is scheduled to play!
Yep, california..........it figures.
