Ukraine never existed as a separate country before Communists created it in 1917. Check the name of "Ukraine" before Soviet takeover - it was called Novorossiya.

MANPADs are relatively weak and for that reason not that much effective against twin-engine, let alone armored aircraft.
It would track an engine exhaust and destroy one engine, but Su-25 can get back home on one engine left.
MANPADS simply cannot reach an aircraft at 20k ft, let alone 30k. And this aircraft was at 30k. Ditto for AA guns. Although large caliber AA guns from WWII could reach 30k, no one uses them anymore. You won't find anything larger than 57mm.
This aircraft was brought down with SAM system or by another aircraft.

Rebel Twitter reports say one of the SU-25’s shot down was attacking Rebel positions near Shakhtersk, Donetsk ,close to the MH17 crash site, and within the declared “Ceasefire” Zone.
