One of the first laws Kiev junta declared was to BAN the use of Russian language in Ukraine. Russian is spoken by the majority of the Ukraine population for CENTURIES. P> Ukrainian is a dialect relatively few speak outside of Western Ukraine. During elections, most politicians speak Russian so the voters could understand them.
Ukraine never existed as a separate country before Communists created it in 1917. Check the name of "Ukraine" before Soviet takeover - it was called Novorossiya.
