US Secretary of State John Kerry on Tuesday again placed the onus on Hamas to accept a ceasefire along the lines of an Egyptian proposal to end the raging conflict in Gaza
The top US diplomat was speaking in Cairo after meeting Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sissi, whose governments ceasefire proposal last week was accepted by Israel but rejected by Gazas Hamas rulers.
Kerry voiced support for the initiative as a framework to end the fighting that has killed almost 600 Palestinians and 29 Israelis in two weeks of fighting.
But Hamas, which has been relentlessly firing rockets and tunneling into Israel, insists the Jewish state lift its eight-year blockade of Gaza before it agrees a truce.

Israeli Defense Minister Moshe Yaalon said Monday that Israel will continue its offensive as long as necessary to stop rocket attacks by Hamas and terrorist infiltration from Gaza.
Meanwhile, a senior Egyptian official on Sunday accused Hamas of neglecting Palestinian citizens after officials claimed that one of the terrorist groups leaders, Khaled Mashaal, had been invited for Israeli-Palestinian cease-fire talks in Cairo.
This is yet another lie in a string of lies made by Hamas leaders, who continue to live comfortable lives abroad while abandoning the Palestinian citizens who are being killed by the day and paying with their lives for the political and military escapades of the organization, the official said, according to Israel Hayom.
Egypt really hates Hamas, which is why Egypt and Israel are cooperating ... :-) ...
Yeah, they’ll get right on that. /s
US, UN pushing hard for immediate cease-fire in Gaza [Israel]

If Hamas really wants a cease-fire, I am sure that we can get to that, but they dont want one, Netanyahu tells Sky News Arabic; Arab TV reports say humanitarian cease-fire in Gaza imminent.
Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, in an interview with Sky News Arabic, pointed out that Israel accepted an Egyptian proposal for a ceasefire last week. That proposal called for an immediate end to the violence, followed 48 hours later by negotiations regarding a more lasting agreement. Part of the proposal called for Palestinian Authority security officers, rather than Hamas men, to man the border crossing with Rafah.
In addition to that proposal, Israel Netanyahu said also accepted shorter humanitarian cease-fires brokered over the last few days first by the UN, and then by the Red Cross. In each case, he said, Hamas violated the cease-fire.
If Hamas really wants a cease-fire, I am sure that we can get to that, he said. But they dont want one.
One government official said that while Israel was ready for a cease fire, Hamas cannot come out of a ceasefire looking like a victor. Israel would be skeptical of any proposal that could be seen as a victory for Hamas.
UN’s Ban arrives, says no country would allow rockets to rain down on its cities [Israel and Hamas]

No country would accept rockets raining down on its civilians, and all countries and parties have an international obligation to protect civilians, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said in Tel Aviv on Tuesday.
Ban, who arrived in Israel as part of his effort together with US Secretary of State John Kerry to broker a cease-fire, said at a press conference with Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu that the UN position was clear: We condemn strongly the rocket attacks, and these must stop immediately.
Furthermore, he said, we condemn the use of civilian sites, schools, hospitals and other civilian facilities for military purposes.
Ban did not say anything during his brief comments to the press about the status of efforts to forge a cease-fire.
But on a hot Mic he spouts his real anti Israeli comments this commie traitors.
Israel should reject any truce and demand a treaty.
This guy is a party crasher... nobody asked for him, nobody invited him. Only enemedia give him a platform from which to babble...
In order to play it well from a PR perspective Israel needs to accept it within reason on condition that Hamass signs it first! We know Hamass won’t do that because it’ll look like they are retreating.
Israel really needs to wipe out Hamas.
I agree. Kerry should stay out of it especially after supporting Hamas by telling Israel they’re killing them and that’s not right.
And Øbama can claim he made this all possible! After all, if he didn’t overplay his hand with Egypt and try to force the MB upon them, Egypt’s military would not have stepped in and provided sanity in an insane region of the world. Post-Sadat cooperation between Egypt and Israel might turn out to be a true miracle. And the Campaigner-in-Chief will not be too shy to claim the credit.
He’s been over there a long time. Hope he stays.
Perhaps he’s there to visit the former Muslim Brotherhood President of Egypt (whom Obama supported) who is in jail ... LOL ...
I remember about 30 years ago someone called the middle east “the graveyard of American Secretaries of State”. Every new one thinks they will be the one to bring peace and proceeds to shuttle around in the name of the “peace process”. The results never change.
I would really like to see it be the GRAVEYARD for Obama!
Hamas needs to surrender.
