An anaconda snake is loose in New Jersey's Lake Hopatcong, and a local reptile expert said Friday he's breaking his silence after animal control told him to keep quiet about the dangerous reptile. "I've known it was an anaconda since last week, but I was told by animal control and state police not to say anything," Gerald Andrejcak, who works for Common Sense for Animals, told The New Jersey Herald. "Officials were afraid that if it came out that the snake was an anaconda it would cause mass hysteria. It needed to come out, it is a public safety issue."

LOL - now you like snakes even less...
It’s already dead.
Got hold of a Jersey City Tube Fish, and died of poisoning.
Lake Hopatcong is surrounded by summer bungalows that were converted to year-round residences. Septic systems are... well... suspect.
I got one better than that. On night back in the '70s some kid broke into the Reptile House at the National Zoo and stole a Gabon Viper. He put the snake in a paper grocery bag and caught a Metrobus home, but it bit him on the way.
Not a problem.
It was kind of you to think of me...:)
Since water temps are much lower than air/land temps, it’s already on borrowed time.
Assuming it even really exists.
;)
The purchase of long guns is not too much of a problem. You go through the procedure of getting a firearms I.D.card. The procedure is basically a background check. The card is a lifetime purchaser I.D. and you present the card when buying a long gun. Generally a drivers liscence is needed for I.D. As you can see there is no problem for long guns. Pistols are another matter. You have to get a pistol purchase permit which when issued allows you to purchase two handguns within I believe 60 days. Depending on where you live this can take from several weeks to 6 months or longer. Where I live I can get a permit in about a month. Some hard a$$ police chiefs might not issue you at all. Getting a carry permit can be almost impossible.
Well I'm sure he would if he had ears and thumbs. But at least he doesn't shed fur all over everything. And his pee isn't wet -- just little white chalky pellet-like things that don't stain. And oh yeah -- he doesn't bark either.
I lived there long ago and am happy to have left, for good. I applied for a permit purchase and the as...le police chief grilled me for about 15 minutes about why I wanted to buy a model 66 sandw. After putting up with his nonsense for ten of those minutes, I said because that is the stainless model of the sandw 19 I carry at work as a fed. He reluctantly signed.
I do not ever wish to be in that position again.
Oooh. Did somebody have to suck the poison out of his way?
Please don’t get me wrong. I realize millions of people keep snakes as pets. I have no issues with this. Years ago we had a pet snake in our family.
In my first post questioned the wisdom of keeping giant aggressive snakes as pets, especially Green Anacondas and African Rock Pythons. I know Burmese Pythons can grow quite large as well, however to the best of my knowledge they are usually quite docile for the most part as pets.
It’s like dogs... It depends on how you work with them and raise them. I know Burms that I wouldn’t mess with without a few people around and a hook. Others, are just big babies. Same goes for retics, anacondas, rocks, carpets, etc.
My big retic girl is a love lush. She loves attention and being around people. She’s quite literally a giant puppy dog. Same with all of my boas and other pythons. On the other hand, I’ve got a pair of garter snakes that are very defensive and quite nippy. What I’m saying is that the bigger snakes are more laid back because they don’t feel the need to fear us like smaller snakes do. They all just want to be left alone in the wild.
Take a guess who is behind all the anti-snake propaganda
[and probably the “giant snake in Jersey”]

The unholy trinity of statist evil.
It’s looking more and more like the snake in the lake is a hoax.
If that is the case, criminal charges need to be filed against the people behind the hoax.
Scotland has “Nessie”.
Jersey has “Figment”.
[Figgie?]
Epic... absolutely epic!
