Seventy Palestinians were killed Sunday in a heavy bombardment of a Gaza neighborhood and 13 Israeli soldiers were slain in the most intense day of fighting in Israels current offensive against Hamas fighters, officials said. The Hamas military also announced its fighters had captured an Israeli soldier.
Abu Obaida, a spokesman for the Al Qassam Brigades, appeared on Hamas TV to announce the soldier had been taken prisoner. Minutes later, there were fireworks in the streets and shouts of God is great! from loudspeakers in mosques.
An Israeli military spokeswoman said the army was investigating the claim.

I suppose Israel will trade another thousand terrorists to get him back.
This is devastating news for Israelis
The IDF denies Hamas captured a soldier..the media won’t report that the dead in Gaza today were Hamas fighters..in fact the majority of those killed have been members of Hamas..that’s something you won’t be hearing in the Jew hating press
Just saw Michael Oren on tv & I didn’t hear him say the IDF was denying it.
The IDF twitter feed is denying it..but they could be saying that because they don’t want to give Hamas the edge, I hope to God its not true otherwise that soldier is as good as dead
But I hope you’re right
why devastating...... the capture is merely the of misfortune of war
Great. Another 1000+ Terrorists get out.
Perhaps devastating to Israelis because they know the Palis maim and torture the prisoners, unlike how Israel treats prisoners with compassion. Would suck to be in that position of misfortune.
Israel cannot allow itself to be deterred. They must clean out this islamist rat’s nest, or give it all up now.
Of course. It worked so well last time./s
It's not like all of a sudden Israel is going to quit taking action.
They ought to bulldoze the entire thing once and for all and make it a free fire zone.
I think 13 soldiers killed & 1 captured would have a a big effect on the Israeli people and their stomach for this ground operation.
This time Israel can refuse to leave Gaza until the prisoner is returned. Gilad Shalit was captured in a cross-border raid and not during an operation in Gaza.
And the alternative is what?
Isn’t there some kind of aerial micro-doppler method with drones that Israel could use to locate tunnels 50 feet below the dry soil of Gaza?
Why? They focus WAY too much on captured soldiers. Like they did with that idiot Gilad Shalit, who was careless and got captured and Israel insanely released 1,000 terrorists for the doofus teenager. 18 soldiers are dead today. What's one more captured? Ignore him and move on with greater intensity.
I don’t think so. That would be interesting if someone does that, it could probably be used for other purposes too.
Ground penetrating radar is one way to locate them, in South Korea they have listening devices along the border to listen for anything being dug by machinery under the ground.
Flex cuff Obama.
