What I love about this is it’s a prime example of how insane liberals are. On one side they want the minimum wage raised and on the other side they want illegals to swarm into the country. Well gee whiz that certainly will help US citizens get work won’t it. I own a business and I have a choice between paying a citizen $15 or an illegal $5 an hour, guess what I’m going to do.
Seems like a natural replacement actually. Witness what happened in the grocery stores,,they cut down on the cashiers and installed DIY check out lanes.
We stopped at Chili’s for lunch the other day In Pismo Beach and each table came with a touchscreen. We ordered and payed using the touchscreen. It was convenient and fast. We really liked it.
Oddly, the Pando guy doesn’t address the message of the billboard. Instead he attacks the sponsor of the billboard.
He incorrectly interprets the billboard as saying “service staff deserve to be replaced by iPads if they demand a fair wage”.
In reality, the billboard is a warning that the economics of a $15 minimum wage will result in job losses.
By the way, I saw one of these table top ordering devices in a Chili’s restaurant in Wilson, NC last week. It was limited to drinks and desserts, but I didn’t see any reason why it couldn’t be for the entire menu.
It is the fact of life. Competition is good.

Reducing the argument against the minimum wage to a powerful image and headline is very difficult. No wonder the left is PO’d.

The truth is technology replaces human workers from the bottom up
when then technology price point goes down.. and the human worker doing the same labor price point goes up via minimum wage ..what happens?...
Look ive worked in high tech since 1980..and ive had to retool, reinvent myself 3 or 4 times... the million dollar box of 10 year back that I got payed well to mantain...become something you can buy at the local Frys consumer electronics store today.
I call it being shrink wrapped out of a job.
So if it happens to even the high tech high skilled and well payed.. how are the low tech low skilled going to survive when you artificially make their position well paid..thier not..
There is a logical argument to having a higher minimum wage, but that is not the argument being used by the left; it’s payola.
There’s no point in having any minimum wage debate (other than stopping this BS based on lies) without ceasing the problem that created the wage gap in the first place: Government-based hyperbolic GDP & low-inflation statistics and defective fiscal policies that don’t even use accepted accounting methods.
If the government audited itself with the same ‘vim & vigor’ applied to any private business, it would shut itelf down.

That tablet in the billboard is true. I had a co-worker go work at a startup in San Francisco last year that provides tablets as registers and other restaurants that have a tablet display that customers just touch for their orders. The restaurants will not need to hire as many in the near future but instead will be firing more people plus those people will not get any tips. I have seen tablets used at Sears for sales.
He is a uber liberal and wanted to move to San Francisco and live in the city. He has to share an apartment with 2 others as they pay $2,400 a month and he takes a bus to work which takes him 30 mins to get there vs 10 mins by car. The startup is giving each employee gym membership and a mac laptop and ipad and iphone. They are burning thru the investors cash. In other words using other peoples money to then spend on their stuff. When it runs out, the owners will no doubt try to get more investors to spend money on them in other ventures. Kinda a mini liberal gov’t.
