The left-leaning tech blog Pando seems to be angry about a lot of aspects of reality.* Witness David Carr flipping out over this billboard that he spotted in San Francisco, walking home from Pandos office a few nights ago.

If you want to piss of a conservative, lie to him.
If you want to piss off a liberal, tell the truth!
Exactly :-)
Well, I see they didn’t use cursive. Wat’s up wit dat?
If anyone is easily offended by foul language, don’t read the comments at the end.
When liberals don’t have a viable argument, they either call their opponent a racist or resort to cursing.
Minimum wage hike will accelerate the process.
What I love about this is it’s a prime example of how insane liberals are. On one side they want the minimum wage raised and on the other side they want illegals to swarm into the country. Well gee whiz that certainly will help US citizens get work won’t it. I own a business and I have a choice between paying a citizen $15 or an illegal $5 an hour, guess what I’m going to do.
Seems like a natural replacement actually. Witness what happened in the grocery stores,,they cut down on the cashiers and installed DIY check out lanes.
Look at it this way - this is a very Darwinian way to weed out the incompetents, who could NEVER be productive enough to justify a $15/hour wage.
At least, not until $15 is sufficiently eroded by inflation to be worth approximately $1.50. And that may be quicker than anybody now thinks.
Yep, libs want a living wage for entry level jobs that require no skills. This billboard is dead on the mark, it’ll put many unskilled out of work.
That benchmark is already behind us.
I know you will do the right thing and automate the position...
We stopped at Chili’s for lunch the other day In Pismo Beach and each table came with a touchscreen. We ordered and payed using the touchscreen. It was convenient and fast. We really liked it.
Oddly, the Pando guy doesn’t address the message of the billboard. Instead he attacks the sponsor of the billboard.
He incorrectly interprets the billboard as saying “service staff deserve to be replaced by iPads if they demand a fair wage”.
In reality, the billboard is a warning that the economics of a $15 minimum wage will result in job losses.
By the way, I saw one of these table top ordering devices in a Chili’s restaurant in Wilson, NC last week. It was limited to drinks and desserts, but I didn’t see any reason why it couldn’t be for the entire menu.
It is the fact of life. Competition is good.
There was an article not long ago that said Panera Bread was going to install automated order kiosks. They said it would replace two employees who would be “reassigned” (read: we will find stuff for them to do until we see that the system functions to our satisfaction and that the media has lost interest in the new kiosks, then were firin’ ‘em).
were = we’re
I laid off my spellchecker because he demanded a $15 minimum wage.
EXCELLENT billboard.
Reducing the argument against the minimum wage to a powerful image and headline is very difficult. No wonder the left is PO’d.
Minimum wage hike will accelerate the process. “
Local and national news both spent time stating this was not true and provided some statistical information. They did not cite their sources, however. Nor did they provide a listing of specific states or what the average hourly rate was in those states before they raised the minimum wage or which states had Republican versus Democrat governors.
The job growth in Texas and North Dakota has to be largely due to the oil patch activity where beginning wages has to be above the minimum wage or they would have more trouble hiring new employees than they already have.
