It has been so long, I cannot remember exactly just what part I read for but believe it (Mallory) went to Tony Young. He was not near as pretty as I was... so I guess I wasn't ugly enough again for a minor character!
Yeah, then Eye-Tallions got all the luck on that flick! Tony's real Italian name was... Vittorio R. Tomassi as I recall.
James Garner a real man, yes. Steve McQueen? No even close--
On The Great Escape McQueen was being such his usual pain in the ass and taking too many long breaks from the filming, the producers and director John Sturges started giving more and more of his lines to Garner's character.
Finally seeing the writing on the wall, old Steve came back and finished filming.
On McQueen's next to last film, Tom Horn, I was told he kept telling the producers and screenwriter he wanted a scene where his character sat around a campfire and talked about the good old days. Told there was such a scene, he said he wanted one where the old days were better and his character said less. This went on completely all through filming and I understand they filmed some seven different versions. The final one having McQueen just nod to comments by the other actors.
None of those seven scenes... were used in the final cut--
Rollo's brother ?
How was David McCallum on Great escape set
I think he is nice Brit bloke
I don’t know if you know this
James Woods guest star on season 1 episode of Rockford files one of his first roles on TV or movie I think you could find it on You tube or Hulu
I never heard any person say anything uncomplimentary about David McCallum and I never slept with him... so I cannot tell ya what you really want to know, Seven--
However, IMHO David should have kicked Charlie Bronson's arse!
You got a problem... with my brother?

Yea. Memories of my dad and myself watching the Rockford Files.
The Great Escape, 1963
“Steven would drive that motorcycle with the wastikas on it all over Munich,” Garner said, referring to his costar (and difficult friend) in the WWII adventure, Steve McQueen. “We'd go to lunch like that. People would yell. They didn't think that was too good, and I didn't either.”
The guy was a great actor, and leaves lots of us with great memories. Yeah, he was a lib. But certainly not the in-your-face type we see these days. By every account, he was personable, classy, and just a good guy. Some of us don’t see everything through the lens of political affiliation.
I know get this David introduce Jill Ireland to Charlie Bronson as friend
He stole her from him that the story I hear oh well least David went on to do NCIS
They are on season 12 already
Did I read somewhere that Great Escape cast allegedly shut down 3 German bars LOL! with their drinking and partying they used get in fight
I wouldn’t mind seeing that
Great Oklahoman..........
It’s just funny. Everyone here hates Roman Polanski and Woody Allen. Neither have been convicted of anything and they make great films and everyone hates them THose two are only a problem if you are a little girl, Garner’s politics affect everyone. Just weird.
Maybe I’m a hyprocrite, but I really don’t care about an actor’s politics unless they’re taking it center-stage and being all loud and annoying with it a la Streisand, Matt Damon, and Janeane Garbage-flow. I don’t remember James Garner doing that, although I was pretty young (born in 1970) when I was watching him on prime-time.
Ah, I was looking at what I guess you call the bit parts, I underestimated you!
Have you been in anything, other than “All my circuits”?
My brother works with a guy who was child actor on a Soap Opera, and he auditioned for the lead in “Home Alone”!! Culkin had that in the bag.
Oh please. Roman Polanski raped a child, and Woody Allen is a creep who married his step-daughter. James Garner honorably served his country in Korea. He had his political opinions. They differed from yours. Get a life.
Thank you!!! Very well put!!!
You miss my point. 90% of all hollywood people ARE creeps. People go ape nuts over DeCaprio on this site, he has a different opinion, Rosie O’Donalle has a different opinion and folks here hate her, Barbra streisand, etc. One could go on and on. I just find it odd that Garner is so well loved. His politics were no differnt than O’Donalle, DeCarprio, Streisand etc., and yet he is accepted. Simply odd. And people forget there were other movie stars at that Polanski party that they love who knew well what was happening.
I watch them all. I don’t care much who they are. A crap person can produce a work of art or do a good job and just because you view something doesn’t mean you accept it (I’ve read Mein Kampf and Das Kapital and support neither). I don’t want to have to pass a litmus test to get a job (though it is becoming that way) nor submit someone to such a test. That said, would I hire Polanski or Woody to paint the day care center with the kids there? Probably not, but I’ll watch their movies.
