How far left was I? So far left my beloved uncle was a card-carrying member of the Communist Party in a Communist country. When I returned to his Slovak village to buy him a mass card, the priest refused to sell me one. So far left that a self-identified terrorist proposed marriage to me. So far left I was a two-time Peace Corps volunteer and I have a degree from UC Berkeley. So far left that my Teamster mother used to tell anyone who would listen that she voted for Gus Hall, Communist Party chairman, for president. I wore a button saying "Eat the Rich." To me it wasn't a metaphor.
I voted Republican in the last presidential election.
Below are the top ten reasons I am no longer a leftist. This is not a rigorous comparison of theories. This list is idiosyncratic, impressionistic, and intuitive. It's an accounting of the milestones on my herky-jerky journey.
10) Huffiness.
In the late 1990s I was reading Anatomy of the Spirit, a then recent bestseller by Caroline Myss.
Myss described having lunch with a woman named Mary. A man approached Mary and asked her if she were free to do a favor for him on June 8th. No, Mary replied, I absolutely cannot do anything on June 8th because June 8th is my incest survivors' meeting and we never let each other down! They have suffered so much already! I would never betray incest survivors!
Myss was flabbergasted. Mary could have simply said "Yes" or "No."(continued)

Yes, it was a good read. I knew they were haters, but did not realize the depth to which it went. They are if their father, the devil, who was a liar from the beginning. The article leads me to believe that there is going to be armed conflict in the not too distant future. I don’t see any way around it.
In point 3/2 he brings up the left’s tendencies to always think big. Which the results are hard to analyze and rack up a huge financial burden. My idiot sister-in-law does this. She flies all over latin America, running up huge travel costs for my brother-in-law, claiming she is helping everyone. However, she lives 3 blocks from a complete slum, where helping opportunities are boundless.
Under point number 1, Hate, I came across this interesting tidbit “ He protests against homophobic Christians, American imperialists, and Monsanto.”
More than one Freeper has fallen under the spell of the Leftist movement, buying into the ‘I hate Monsanto’ bit.

What a great article. As we grow up and start to recognize ideological dishonesty, selective outrage, hatred, and disordered superiority/inferiority complexes of the left, or any other cultish movement, that takes advantage of vulnerable people and innocent youth, we will cease to be one of their “useful idiots”. The difference as she mentions, is having God. His sheep will hear Him.

No, me neither.
As to what you say about the Devil, this is what I said to myself when I heard a brief bit of Sean Hannity’s interview with the gal who is doing those hidden camera exposes of Planned Parenthood - in which they are telling the kids to do sado-masochistic sex, etc.
And I’m thinking to myself: well it is one thing to say how unfortunate this woman is pregnant, she should be able to have an abortion, blah blah, yadda yadda. How do you get from there to instructing teenagers to do sado-masochism?
And then, you know, it struck me. They truly are in league with the Devil. Every last one of them. And if there is ANYONE who works for or with that organization who is NOT in league with the Devil they need to quit TOMORROW and find a different job.
And if that job is flipping burgers or sweeping floors I say that will be a vast improvement.
FTA: Pete is now a Facebook friend and his feed overflows with the anger that I'm sure he assesses as righteous. He protests against homophobic Christians, American imperialists, and Monsanto. I don't know if Pete ever donates to an organization he believes in, or a person suffering from a disease, or if he ever says comforting things to afflicted intimates. I know he hates.
I'm thinking I'll put the article on FB.
