Scott Walker Calls on Wisconsin Legislature to Repeal Common Core
Breitbart ^ | 7/1/7/14 | Dr. Susan Berry

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R) called on state lawmakers Thursday to pass a bill in January that would repeal the Common Core standards and replace them with “standards set by people in Wisconsin.”

According to the Wisconsin State Journal, Walker released a statement Thursday afternoon, just hours after two Republican state senators, Leah Vukmir and Paul Farrow, issued a joint press statement calling for a delay in the use of the Smarter Balanced Assessments (SBAC) that are aligned with the Common Core standards.

Earlier in the year, Walker helped draft a bill that would create a state board to replace the nationalized standards with standards the board develops. Farrow and Vukmir led an effort to pass the bill, but the measure did not receive the support of the chairmen of the legislature’s education committees, and no vote was ever called on the bill.

Tom McCarthy, Department of Public Instruction (DPI) spokesman, said DPI is statutorily obligated to begin using the SBAC tests this school year, and the legislature does not meet again until January.

“You would need to change a lot of statutes in a very short amount of time,” McCarthy added.

Press releases were sent out the day after the Cedarburg School Board voted to ask lawmakers to delay the SBAC tests for at least two years.

Meanwhile in OH...Kasich stalls on Common Core

We could take a page out of the liberal tactics guide and start calling Common Core “Collectivist Core.”

Walker knows his words have to be right, but I’ve been hearing the right sounding words from Republicans all my life while the taxes, spending and government, not to mention debt, all get larger and we lurch further to the Left.

When did Walker express his pro-amnesty, border views? Any background info?

Yep, he did it on a conference call that was widely reported in the press, and then he “clarified” his position by essentially reiterating it to the largest newspaper in WI. Like Jeb Bush, he has a Mexican wife, but he actually goes farther than Bush on the issue by saying that he wants every single person who wants to immigrate here, whether from Mexico or from another country, to be permitted to do so legally (open borders).

He has also several times tried to claim that he’s not for “amnesty”, though he is for a path to citizenship for illegals and, again, he would in the future as he put it in one of his supposed clarifications (the Breitbart piece), say, “If you’re somebody, whether you’re from Mexico or Germany or Ireland, and you want to come to this country legally, we should find a way to make it happen.”

I see from your previous posts that you’re from WI and a big Walker supporter. Are you also massively pro-amnesty and do you happen to work in his administration?

Thanks for the info and the links. Question: when Walker states that he wants every single person who wants to immigrate here, whether from Mexico or from another country, to be permitted to do so legally, does he not mean he wants them to follow our immigration laws that are on the books, whereby you make application, wait to be notified and then get in line?

No, he has said expressly he wants to make legal immigration easier, so that every single person who wants to can come here without having to break the law to do so.

In every article about Walker, I notice you come on with your immigration rebuff. Do you understand the difference between legal and illegal immigration? Even the articles you cite use the term legal immigration. My son-in-law is a legal immigrant.
When you make such a blatant mistake as saying that his wife is Mexican, it is hard to trust anything else you write. Are you supporting Rand Paul? (You might want to research the last name Tonino.)

Not that many current GOP pols pass the amnesty test—the party is selling conservatism down the river.

But Walker has about as extreme a position as I’ve seen, and yes, this is the one issue that would make all other issues lost causes.

No, I don’t support Rand Paul and I have no idea what you’re getting at with that.

Yes, I understand the difference between legal and illegal immigration—as does, I’d reckon, the vast majority of the country. The articles I cite involve both illegals over here already and Walkers’ ideas to expand immigration such that everyone in the future can come here legally. Neither they nor I have confused the two and it is inaccurate for you to claim that they address only illegal immigration or that I have somehow confused the two.

Walker wants to make illegals already here citizens, and he wants to do away by future illegal immigration by making everyone who wants to come here easily and automatically legal.

Both of those positions are killers to this country, IMO. Although Walker has apparently been a very good governor for WI, I believe he would be a country-killer as president. Most Freepers even don’t seem to understand his immigration position, which I think is relevant to any discussion here about his potential as a presidential candidate. Better that the truth be out and understood early than late or not at all.

Now, he does have some supporters and likely staffers who eventually come on every thread here about him. They call me names and claim that every single quote from Walker on amnesty has been a misquote and none of the numerous press articles out there are accurate, because they are from the ‘MSM’. I actually think there venom and attempts to deceive do him more harm than good.

Oh, and my apologies if she is only “Hispanic” rather than Mexican. For the comparison to Jeb Bush that doesn’t change anything.
