Officials at Ohio University are considering mandatory classes for students who get caught smoking on campus as part of a draconian ban on smoking for the upcoming 2015-2016 academic year.

The ban will outlaw every use of cigarettes and e-cigarettes on any part of the 1,850-acre public university campus, reports The Athens News, the local newspaper.

Part of The Big Tobacco Settlement in the mid 1990s was supposed to provide anti-smoking education, under the guise that it would eliminate smoking.

I live in a small apartment complex of 20 units. About 1/3 of the residents are old folks and 2/3 young working singles/couples. I notice that either one or both of the young residents in most of the apartments are smokers.

The re-education portion of The Big Tobacco Settlement seems to have been a failure, like so many other do-gooder lib projects. But, then, for libs, it isn’t the success or failure that counts — it is the good intentions.

I have that original pamphlet somewhere - I suppose the grandkids will find it looking for the money they’ll probably think I must have hidden somewhere.

I must confess, I bought the book and filled out the Pope card. Lost long ago in the shuffle. I figure that a move is half a fire.

I told the wife, next time we move (if ever) we’re not getting a moving truck, we’re getting a dumpster.

Go ahead and use drugs or drink excessive amounts of alcohol. We’ll leave you alone. But cigarettes don’t lead to promiscuity and unexpected pregnancy. IOW, they’re no good because tehy don’t help the abortion industry.
