According to Scripture, yes, he thinks before he says things like this.

Matthew 25: 24-46

34

Then the King will say to those at his right hand, `Come, O blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world;

35

for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me,

36

I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.'

37

Then the righteous will answer him, `Lord, when did we see thee hungry and feed thee, or thirsty and give thee drink?

38

And when did we see thee a stranger and welcome thee, or naked and clothe thee?

39

And when did we see thee sick or in prison and visit thee?'

40

And the King will answer them, `Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me.'

41

Then he will say to those at his left hand, `Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels;

42

for I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink,

43

I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not clothe me, sick and in prison and you did not visit me.'

44

Then they also will answer, `Lord, when did we see thee hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to thee?'

45

Then he will answer them, `Truly, I say to you, as you did it not to one of the least of these, you did it not to me.'

46

And they will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life."

Sal, why don’t you take in a few of these people? Why place that burden on non-Catholics?

Have you volunteered your home to house these illegal aliens?

Great.

How many of these “children” have you hosted?

Talk about a blatant misapplication of scripture. Both by you AND by the pope... if he actually based his proclamation off of it.

Spare me. One cannot be charitable with someone else's money. The U.S. is already the most charitable nation on Earth.

Get off your own butt, Frank, and care for these kids yourself with some of the Vatican's vast wealth. No foot washing photo ops, please.

There is a word for preaching at others to do what you’re not doing yourself. That word is ‘hypocrisy’. The hypocrites of Jesus’ day were the Pharisees, & He was singularly hard on them.

Jesus did NOT go to the seat of Government and tell them to TAKE the wealth of the State to do ‘good’.

He did NOT go to the money changers and ask them to set up an IRS type system so money could efficiently be taken from people (against their will) and distributed according to a collective's idea of 'charity'. That IS NOT THE MESSAGE OF THE BIBLE.

Jesus was talking about salvation - YOUR salvation.

About YOU growing spiritually. About things YOU should do...NOT things you should FORCE others to do.

The scripture's beauty has NOTHING to do with setting up a bureaucracy to force citizens to ‘do good’.

Notice that in the article no where does the Pope claim the U.S. must welcome illegal immigrants (implying that the U.S. must stop enforcing her laws and allow anyone to remain here) as the title states?

This is a humanitarian crisis and the Christian response to this should be as the Pope says. That does not mean suspending whatever legal actions are normally taken against illegal immigrants. Charity can act within the law and without taking part in injustice.

Is that all you can do is post pre-assembled scripture? Have you ever had an original thought/reply on FR?

Why doesn’t he quote Scripture, then? We have plenty of people to help, feed, and clothe without opening our borders to the whole world.

You first, Bubba. If the pope doesn't take them in to the Vatican, then he's a blithering hypocrite.

According to Scripture, yes, he thinks before he says things like this.

The problem with this is that we cannot house the entire world.

Our country does do this via foreign aid, missionary workers, relief efforts, etc.

We are also a nation of laws. In Romans we do have Paul's writings on obeying the authorities. Right now, the authorities are not obeying the laws of our country.

If the Vatican wants to set an example, then open up the Vatican to house illegal immigrants.

You have the luxury of not living in the border areas based on your profile. It's easy to make these kind of statements but until you're actually on the ground you don't understand the picture. From all news accounts these areas are becomming no-man's lands. They are very dangerous.

I think the application of those to willful invaders is about zilch (except as a very temporary measure — hours, days —before returning them home).

Catechism/Church teaching, does not go by scripture alone, and it does not go by a passage or a set of passages to settle a situation

In para 2241, it takes into account everything that is said

If you look it up, you can also see all the references that were used

What you will find is that they determined that a nation cannot do any of the activities you mentioned from scripture, feeding the hungry, etc, if it is overrun with illegals and the Church is very against illegal invasion

This Pope? Dunno what the deal is here, but he is speaking against the catechism

I understand what you are saying. These admonishments are for the individuals, not governments.

What the pope is recommending will destroy this country. We DO NOT HAVE THE MONEY. IF this keeps up, we will not be America anymore.

Should we be robbing future generations to pay for these illegals?

Should we be exposing our children, grandchildren, our grandparents to diseases that could maim or kill them?

Should we reward lawbreakers who are not citizens while we cannot feed and clothe our own?

No.

The pope may mean well, but he is encouraging folks (to include Catholic churches and charities) to aid the government in destroying our country.

The New Testament is about individual salvation. Jesus, the Lord or the Old Testament, inspired Moses to write down the laws of naturalization and cultural preservation. If those laws were applied here and now, there would be no illegal immigration problems in the United States. And I am sure, you could INDIVIDUALLY invite a number of the lice ridden into your home.
