In a dramatic development Tuesday, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has fired his Deputy Defense Minister Danny Danon.
Danon, who is a member of Netanyahu's Likud party, has been a consistent and sometimes harsh critic of the prime minister's leadership. Sources close to the PM say Danon's scathing criticism of the government's decision to sign up to a ceasefire agreement with Hamas proved the last straw.
Hopes of a ceasefire crumbled after Hamas rejected it and fired dozens of rockets onto Israeli population centers, prompting Israel to respond with more airstrikes after several hours of restraint.
While some analysts - including Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman - have criticized the government's willingness to consider yet another ceasefire with Hamas, others have praised the decision to accept as a smart move which isolated Hamas internationally after the Islamist terrorist group rejected it, and gave Israel more legitimacy to continue its ongoing operation in Gaza.
"At a time when the Government of Israel and the IDF find themselves at the height of a military operation against terrorist organizations, and are acting with determination to ensure the security of the citizens of the country, it is unacceptable that the deputy defense minister attacks so sharply the actions of the government that is leading the operation," Netanyahu wrote in a statement explaining his decision.

Gets my vote...
How many decades has Israel pulled this same routine, hoping to win public opinion? Has it worked? LOL There’s more Israeli hatred out there than ever before. Europe is awash in it. It exists here too.
Don’t buy off on the idea the world is coming around. You know it isn’t, when it comes to Israel.
Bibi means well, but several years from now, we’ll be right back here again, and Israel will pull up short of the goal to curry favor with people who will never judge it fairly.
Not conquering your enemy never works.
We had the NVC on the ropes a number of times. We called ceasefires and guess what. The talks fell through and the NVC attacked again with more force. We finally gave up.
Kill the enemy! Kill the enemy! Kill the enemy!
Lets let thousands of rocket rain down on your neighborhood and then let you wax rhapsodic about calling a cease-fire so the enemy could rearm and start it all over.
“Lets let thousands of rocket rain down on your neighborhood and then let you wax rhapsodic about calling a cease-fire so the enemy could rearm and start it all over.”
Well, since Hamas rejected the cease-fire, Israel has already announced they’re going to rain a shit storm on Hasmas in the next 24 hours, and now no one will have a moral leg to stand on in condemning Israel. Israel knew all along the “cease-fire” was never actually going to happen, so they had nothing to lose by playing along for a few minutes and everything to gain.
Bibi is the Mitt Romney of Israel IMHO.....
I was there in 1987 and many soldiers were all over and did have soldiers take us to our hotel. had to get used to that.
This is not how it normally works out. Just because Bibi got lucky this time, it’s not something to crow about. You watch. There will be a cease-fire, and Hamas will rain rockets down on Israel again.
Right now there are huge stores of weapons in Southern Lebanon again. This is all cyclical.
Israel has got to put the hurt to these folks and refuse to let up until the other side takes a pass on doing it all over.
I wouldn’t got that far. As I said, I like Netanyahu. Signing on to cease-fires with terrorists is very very iffy.
I’m not a big fan of Romney either, but I don’t think he would be dismantling our military right now like Obama has been. With the right military advisers, he might actually work out for us militarily.
He sure wouldn’t be putting in place the team Obama has been.
Regardless of party, the defense policy of this country has stopped short of total victory like World War 2.
Iran was behind those IED’s when W Bush was president and Iran got off without consequences for it.
Pakistan’s intelligence agency created the Taliban in Afghanistan that gave Bin Laden his base of operations.
Drones are no substitute for victory anywhere including Israel’s situation in Gaza today.
Limited no win police wars from Korea to Vietnam and the ones since are not the answer for the US or Israel.
Well, they’ll refuse, they’ll run out of ordnance, they’ll scream for talks, while they’re getting resupplied, all the while painting the Israelis as they aggressor...
The Israelis will agree to to cease fire, a few months will go by, the Palis will be resupplied, and it’ll start over again.
I agree with your comments. I will say that I am not as up to date on the Taliban creation as you seem to be, having been created by Pakistan’s intelligence agency.
God Bless Bibi.
Wish he was OUR President.
I was listening to the BBC News back in the 1990’s when it all came down and the Taliban takeover came from the south out of Pakistan.
In 2001 under US attack, they retreated back into Pakistan.
And its from Pakistani territory that they have waged war against the international forces and the government of Afghanistan harassed from time to time by some drones.
Its been discussed for years in intelligence circles how the ISI Pakistani Intelligence Agency created the Taliban and this has also figured in public discussion as well.
I saw online on a website of a tour of the church in which Jesus suffered and died, plus rose, and there was in the virtual tour what look like what was preserved was what was left and it was not much is left of that hill of Calvary left, it is inclosed.
People save their pennies for vacations all the time. A trip to the Holy Land is worth every nickel.
What a way to live.
No thank you.
I'll stay right here in the good ole USA.
Your welcome!
