Islamic Jihad leader says group would agree to truce with Israel if "aggression" on Gaza stops, border crossings reopened; official in Ramallah says Hamas has appeal to Qatar, Egypt and Turkey to help reach deal.
The Palestinian Authority said Monday that the countdown for reaching a new ceasefire between Israel and Hamas has begun.
“Hamas is desperate for a ceasefire,” a Palestinian official in Ramallah said. “They have appealed to Qatar, Egypt and Turkey to help in reaching a new truce with Israel.”
The official claimed that Hamas has been under heavy pressure from Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, who have “paid an unusually heavy price” during the fighting.
Hamas and Islamic Jihad officials reiterated their readiness to reach an agreement that would end the current fighting with Israel.
Islamic Jihad leader Ramadan Shalah said that his organization would agree to a new truce with Israel if the “aggression” on the Gaza Strip stopped and the border crossings are reopened.

Hamas is desperate for a cease fire so it can re-arm and get more bombs and missiles to kill innocent Jews and Christians.

They are desperate because Israel is eliminating all of Hamas’ rockets and offensive capabilities. THey want a ceasefire so as not to lose everything.
In other words, Israel needs to completely clean out the rat’s nest.
The populace is happy when Jews are being harassed and killed, according to surveys. Now that the shoe is on the other foot... it’s “Hudna time!”
They are giving the Israeli’s good direction. The IDF needs to keep going.
Who knows, they may catch a couple of “jihadl’s,” practicing “anal jihad!” Or as the Brits would say “buggering each other.”

Seems to me that when the enemy is desperate for a cease fire, that's the point where you increase your attacks until they are ready to agree to an unconditional surrender.
I’m skeptical. This is a great opportunity to raise funds among the ummah. The appeal can be summed up as follows: “Donate today - help save the faithful in Palestine from the evil Jew”. Hamas gets most of the benefit, whereas ordinary Palestinians suffer most of the hits. What’s not to like? Hamas will try to prolong this up to the point that it encounters donor fatigue. Once the flow of new cash peters out, Hamas will come to the negotiating table and demand, as a condition of peace, billions in reconstruction cash from the West. We’ve seen it before, and we’ll see it again. Short of the medieval strategy (convert or die and/or jizya) that won Islam most of its present territorial extent, it’s very hard to win a conquered people over.
I don’t know why Israel would ever open its border. Let the Palis build their own infrastructure and create their own jobs.
