In a rare interview covering a wide array of topics, Attorney General Eric Holder said that he would not back away from a controversial speech he gave in 2009 in which he called the United States a nation of cowards on the topic of race.
I wouldnt walk away from that speech, Holder told ABC News in an interview. I think we are still a nation that is too afraid to confront racial issues, he said, adding that Americans are still hesitant to reach out to one another across the color line [to] talk about racial issues.
In Feb. 2009, in his first speech after taking office, Holder told a crowd gathered at the Justice Department to celebrate Black History Month, Though this nation has proudly thought of itself as an ethnic melting pot, in things racial we have always been and continue to be, in too many ways, essentially a nation of cowards.
Those remarks led to vigorous and divisive debate, with critics saying that Holders idea of openly discussing racial issues involved a one-way conversation led by the attorney general and the Obama administration.
While acknowledging that when it comes to race relations, the U.S. is a fundamentally better place than we were 50 years ago, Holder also called for more work to be done.
But theres still more we have to travel along this road so we get to the place that is consistent with our founding ideals, he told ABC.
In the interview, Holder also reiterated claims he has made in the past that both he and President Obama are treated differently than their predecessors, partially because of their race.
Theres a certain level of vehemence, it seems to me, thats directed at me [and] directed at the president, Holder told ABC, citing people talking about taking their country back as an example.
Theres a certain racial component to this for some people. I dont think this is the thing that is a main driver, but for some theres a racial animus.
Holder also spoke of what he sees as unprecedented Republican opposition.
For whatever reason, [some] Republicans decided early on that this was a president they were just simply not going to cooperate with, Holder said.
And over the past five-and-a-half years, we have seen demonstrations of that, where the president has reached out his hand, offered compromises that have simply not been met [in the way] they have been in the past by a Republican Party willing to do the appropriate things.
Holder was also asked about a number of other issues, including the escalating situation in Syria and Iraq, the on-going IRS scandal, the immigration surge, and Sarah Palins recent call for Obamas impeachment.
On Palin, Holder took a direct shot, saying that the she wasnt a particularly good vice presidential candidate.
Shes an even worse judge of who ought to be impeached and why.
Holder also stood firm on his refusal to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate the IRS, which faces allegations that Lois Lerner, a former agency official, covered up its targeting of conservative non-profit groups.
Holder said that a special prosecutor is not necessary because FBI agents are doing a good, professional job.
Id love to have five minutes with this guy, five minutes is all I would need..Id love to tell him right to his face what I think of him
Yeah. And he’s the lead coward.
‘Id love to have five minutes with this guy, five minutes is all I would need..Id love to tell him right to his face what I think of him’
I hope you get your five minutes and show him what you think.
Since 2012 we have had a nation of 66 million traitors who voted for Traitorobama.
Oh I would..when I look at Holder I just see a man who hates all white people..its what he was raised to believe..to hate all whites, like we owe him something..we owe him NOTHING..I believe that Holder is more racist than even Obama..yes, even Obama..its why Obama chose him
Holder needs to just shut up and ride these last two years out with his fingers crossed that his ass doesn’t wind up in prison.
Well, Eric "my people" Holder has a log in his eye. Yet, he admits that there is a certain racial component for some people. Some people, perhaps, but about the rest who do not?
If this attorney general want to be brave, let him start talking about racial issues amongst "my people". Let us see who the coward is, Mr. Holder.
Blacks are more racist than whites - Larry Elder.
What is the issue with these racist SOBs anyway?
They hate this country. It’s no secret.
“For whatever reason, [some] Republicans decided early on that this was a president they were just simply not going to cooperate with, Holder said. “

H0lder is a coward for not going into Cuba to obtain the release of the DREAMER Elian.
Any serious reaching out requires truth, and most of black America isn’t ready for that, especially the Obama circus and clowns like Holder. When cowardly blacks are ready to take responsibility for themselves, their behavior, their families, education, work ethic and decency towards others, great things can happen, so long as the government stays out of the way.
Your the one shaving in black face.
Most of us grew up past the 13th and 14th amendments and the Jim Crow laws that followed, which sought to undermine “All Men are Created Equal”.
We look at another man for what he is, not the color of his skin and many fine Americans are immigrants of various pigmentation.
We look for your character and judge you on that basis alone.
He’s right. That’s why neither he nor any other liberal will discuss the increasing number of attacks on other races by blacks. He just called the wrong groups cowards.
When a left winger wants to talk about race it is a trap to call anybody that is not a patronizing liberal a racist.
Eric Holder is certainly a fine one to be name-calling. Another example of the kind of projection that liberals attempt to attach to political opponents. When cornered, Eric Holder ducks behind his “are-you-picking-on-a-black-man” defense, unwilling and unable to explain his actions on any kind of rational basis. He is filled with a mixture of hate, envy, fear and totally uncritical thinking when it comes to any discussion of right and wrong, moral or immoral, or even what is legal or illegal.
By rights, he should be subject to impeachment action right now. But “political correctness” is his protection, and he is unwilling to step away from that cover. But sometime, there has to be “truth to power” asserted, if for no more reason than to flush out the cockroaches.
Define “coward”, again?
People like Holder - Barak - Oprah - Farrakhan - Jesse Jackson & Sharpen - all keep “division” alive in the public - to control and temper society all the while claiming it’s the other sides fault...and this is not racism?
-- The ones who argue that because there was once slavery in parts of America, there is no such thing as liberty.
-- The ones who tell you that freedom is bad for you because it leaves you "on your own."
-- The ones who want to keep black people dependent on government so they will continue to vote for Democrats.
-- The ones who are afraid to talk about the "knock-out-game" and the overwhelmingly disproportionate incidents of black-on-white crime."
-- The ones who vote for a domestic enemy of the Constitution purely because of the color of his skin and then have the nerve to call people racists because they are outraged by his War on American law and liberty.
