Widow of man shot in theater ‘for texting’ hits out at judge after ‘shooter’ released

Bail was set at $150,000 for the release of Curtis Reeves, 71, accused of second-degree murder in the shooting death of Chad Oulson, 43

Appeals court ruled that a district judge may have made an error by failing to set bail for Reeves

Reeves shot and killed Oulson at a movie theater in January after a dispute over text messaging

The former police captain must stay home, wear an ankle monitor, surrender his guns and avoid contact with victim's widow

'We are flooded, we are devastated,' said lawyer representing Nicole Oulson after news of Reeves' impending release

Man.

We are miles apart. Your definition of a civilized society... I don’t even get it.

Why would you applaud the muscle memory that enables athletes to do amazing things and not see the implications of that same “memory” when triggered by an incident in a dark theater?

You’ve found me out.

I know the deputy was a direct witness, so you can rely upon his testimony to send the guy to prison.

Yeah, that’s OK. There are a lot of people who don’t realize that with true liberty there is risk.

I'll Reeves' wife had a nice quiet respite from her menacing husband whilst he was in the pokey.

Too bad he can start back in oppressing her.

If the retired Air Force officer who claimed he was an expert observer didn’t see a handgun when Reeves squeezed past him nor did Oulson or anyone else including Reeves’ wife, I don’t see the premeditation. If anything Reeves’ consternation afterwards is telling.

Pigeonholing it as “bad” cop and ignoring the details is missing something that isn’t common knowledge.

How about pigeonholing it as foul tempered moron who shouldn't have been carrying a gun in the first place? Witnesses have said that it was Reeves who initiated the conflict, Reeves who escalated the conflict, and Reeves who overreacted and shot an unarmed man.

The person who was violating the rules and shining a phone light in front of other people in a dark movie auditorium, started the conflict.

LOL -- too bad the article didn't interview her. She might have been one of those who filed to keep him in the pokey.

I wish I could have been a mouse in the corner when they had their first quiet little dinner together.

Same can be said about prosecutors with thin cases.

I agree; they are also lawyers, are they not?

Either we believe in Constitutional protections, or we're no different than Libs and activist judges and their "living document"doctrine, which is how we've arrived at the point we're at regarding other lost liberties. Something Ol' Ben said about safety and liberty comes to mind, also.

Let's go with the "right to a speedy trial", for the benefit of the victims and their families, for starters. Let's also demand that neither side try the case in the media; and let's see that victims are not subjected to libel and slander by defense attorneys; and let's make sure victims and/or their families are not subjected to cruel and unusual punishment by having their reputations dragged through the mud by criminal defense attorneys or by endless delays or being endangered by slap-on-the-wrist sentences or no notification of parole. Just for starters.

Self-absorbed, easily offended twits demanding the world revolve around them are deeply offended when their selfish behavior is called out. . ..Thank you. Get Off your GD CELL PHONE. You could be my friend.

My apologies for my earlier post pointing out the realities of the life of a peasant who is a concealed carrier of firearms.

I didn't realize that you are a King's Man, and such trifling things like "peasant law" don't apply to you and your Warrior brethren.

Again, my apologies, and don't take out any frustrations over my previous insolence on the next blameless, unsuspecting peasant you have reason to "confront"...

The AF officer said that it was one fluid motion as if it was already in his hand ready to fire.

It wasn’t in his pants pocket as the old fart claimed and the video makes that clear.

B.S.

Either party could have been more accommodating.

But shooting down a dude for texting in a theater... Really?

I feel like I am reading the comments section of Youtube. Bunch of morons! This is FR, and it used to have some pretty smart people here. But this thread, this horrific justifying of the shooter by some of you...

Really? You should be ashamed of yourselves and I hope to hell you are not carrying. Ever.

If you are carrying I beg with you, plead with you to de-escalate first. De-escalate must be your first objective, shooting should be the last, final resort after you have attempted to defuse and/or leave.

You’re kidding right???

How about the retired cop who carried a gun into the theatre with a NO GUNS sign posted on the front door???

Does that tell you anything —

I probably won’t.

Last time I was there though, for the 9-12 project, I enjoyed myself.

I can't seem to get any of the badge-polishers to respond to the fact that mere peasants who conceal-carry are required to retreat from confrontations, and are HEAVILY TRAINED to retreat.

And they're reminded multiple times that they're going to prison if they don't retreat.

How's about you, meatloaf? Any thoughts on that little factoid?
