Ted Cruz declines to follow Palin’s lead in calling for Obama’s impeachment

Every Republican has three options on impeachment. One: “Let’s do it. He’s got it coming.” As far as I know, no one in Congress has joined Palin in taking that approach since her op-ed at Breitbart went live yesterday, although I’m sure there’s a constituency for it in the House. Someone should ask Tim Huelskamp or Michele Bachmann. Two: “Hell no. It’s political suicide.” Lots of Republicans believe that, McCain and Boehner foremost among them, but they don’t want to say so publicly or else they’ll be attacked from the right for putting expediency above principle. Erick Erickson, who’s no one’s idea of a RINO, is bolder than they are in making the case today at Red State.

Thus, option three: “He’s got it coming, but alas, it won’t work. Democrats are too corrupt to join us in the effort.” That’ll be the default position for Republican pols since it lets them shift blame while achieving suicide-avoidance. The mystery with Cruz was whether he’d choose door number one or number three. He wants to preserve his cred as Mr. Tea Party ahead of 2016 but, after having spearheaded the “defund” effort, he also doesn't want to get knocked again as a guy who’s willing to bet lots of Republican political capital on lost causes. His interview with Mark Levin on Monday night suggested that he was in the “he’s got it coming but it won’t work” camp.

And, per National Review, he is.

In 1776 those who signed the Declaration of Independence were the elites of the colonies. They were the wealthy merchants, lawyers, planters, and politicians of the time. The tyranny of the king (actually more Parliament than the king) had reached the point they were willing to risk their lives, the lives of their families and their fortunes to end what they perceived as despotism. Their odds of success against the most powerful nation on the planet were very low in 1776 and they knew they would be hanged if they failed.

In 2014 the ruling elites seem satisfied with the current state of affairs. The opposition GOP fully funds the activities of the administration over the objection of its own voting base. The ruling Democrats are very happy with the current direction. The economic leaders, academia, and the media elites are all fully on board.

If the members of the elite ruling class of 2014 aren’t willing to take the risk of losing their “status” in society, much less their fortunes and lives, the nation will continue down the course established by the current administration. At this point almost every member of the elite ruling city class perceives he or she has more to personally gain by playing along than by meaningfully opposing tyranny. Hence the behavior we see displayed by our politicians, journalists, generals, CEO’s, attorneys, and other leaders in society. Until they feel real pain, expect no change.

There are no patriots in the Ivy League educated ruling class of today. Without patriots, the republic is dead and the Constitution written by patriots is a scrap of paper.

Sarah is not active in the real events of the day. She is an observer acting on a perceived need. She no longer has the stature of the good sheriff. Although rooting from the stands, her voice is strong

Today, july, we are in hiatus, waiting on the results of an election in November. At this point it seems there will be some new conservatives but fewer than if incumbents were primaried. Any action is being delayed for the new Congress.

There is another course, the course being followed, that will destroy Obama and all those around him. Hillary, no longer around him, will be caught up in the general destruction being wrought.

If every single Republican in the House and Senate was 100% behind Obama’s impeachment, it would still fail. If the Republicans take the Senate in the elections this fall, that will sill be true.

Impeachment isn’t going anywhere without a significant number of the Democrats on board with the idea. Work on the Democrats, not the Republicans - if there’s enough Democrat sentiment and support for impeachment, you’ll have no problem getting the GOP to go along.

In my lonely opinion, denying impeachment to obama and the real power who control him, is the smart way to go.

Personally, I believe ‘they’ know NOW that they have failed and their figure head is reflecting that with his ‘bazaar and uninterested’ behavior as some in his base are stating.

The House should gather up some courage and defund everything ‘they’ ask for. They will get beaten up by their media but when has that never been the case?

Norm Lenhart: "Ted, you do it because its the constitutional thing to do. PERIOD."

Yes, exactly! What's the point of creating and maintaining that list of obamacrimes?

WhistlingPastTheGraveyard: "If it won't work, then the system doesn't work. And the Republic is no more. You either have law, or you don't. We don't."

Well said. It's time to challenge the cult of personality and get back to rule of law while there's still time before the revolution.

But we won't. They won't let us and then won't like us. They'll call us names and won't invite us to parties if we try.

Had the GOP manned the hell up and took their case to the public ala Reagan, no ‘secret evidence’ would have been needed. What the open truth was was plenty. They helped bury it.

^^This^^ aka "Lindsey Graham"

A different sort of Peter Principle seems to explain the rise of Lindsey Graham to his position of political prominence/incompetence.

A few years ago, I would have considered the statement I made to be nonsense. Now, I am not so sure, with the Soros Administration’s “fundamental change” of our nation.

And what is right is for congress to get a spine and do THEIR job (not just impeachment) completely. They should be taking back the powers they have ceded over the years to the president. Until that happens NOTHING (even impeaching O) will make any difference. States and citizens have a duty under the constitution as well and WE (yes you too) are failing miserably (and yes I am part of that WE as well)

Agreed.... but don’t say it too loud because some here think that impeachment is the ONLY thing that can be done. We need to apply all constitutional remedies....including getting out and voting for conservatives instead of sitting home and whining. We need to find lawyers who will take up our cases through the courts. We need to demand our states pass article five requests. We need to demand our governors protect our states borders and the citizens thereof.

And most importantly we need to quit calling our friends the enemy.

It is the way it is.
You seem not to be able to handle the idea that inaction, or hesitation, or deliberation, are valid and honorable strategies.
There is no iron clad obligation for Congress to do anything at all.
In fact, it is the threat of impeachment that might keep a normal President in line. With Obama the narcissist, he plays this like a game and Obama might even enjoy impeachment.
Politics is about policy and it does not help us advance conservative policy to impeach Obama at this time.
It might be smart to impeach Holder instead, but Holder already says he is moving on.

>> . They want their participation trophy in the GOP and F the rest of us.<<

Well stated.

The problem with me, though, is that I don’t give a damn about the GOP anymore. They hate us and this country as much as democrats do.

I’m starting to feel like I don’t fit on around here anymore, if you know what I mean.

Inaction and hesitation are signs of sloth and cowardice. Deliberate what? What exactly would you like to waste time babbling about? There is a list in the double digits compiled by people with actual constitutional experience saying that Zero committed HCAM two dozen times over. Literally. So what should we discuss? Football? Knitting? Auto mechanics?

Really. What would you care to discuss while the GOP surges ever leftward assisting the Dems destroy America? How about we form a book club and all sit in a drum circle chanting passages from Barry’s favorite book on a “Post American World”?

Perhaps have some Tofu and organic fair trade coffee.

It isn’t clear to me that the nation can survive another year and a half of this administration the way it’s going now. If we can’t impeach the guy, we need to find some way to stop the damage.

My feelings exactly, although I do believe if anyone ever deserved to be impeached, it's this guy (Hell, we don't even know that he's a natural born citizen).

You love to cloud the issues.
You love straw man arguments.
You can not stand it if anyone disagrees with you.

For the record, Obama is a criminal thug.
However, it is unwise to do what your enemy wants.

In my opinion, Obama wants to be impeached.
Obama is leading us into a trap.

Got it.

‘Clearly’ someone that calls a seated president a criminal thug and fights against his impeachment has their priorities well in order. ‘Clearly’ the guy saying that criminal thugs should be impeached is clouding the issue.

I’ll bet the sky isn’t blue on your planet either.

Strategy
Look the word up.

You blindly and emotionally strike out again and again. You give no thought to the consequences of your proposals or actions.

You want short term emotional satisfaction and you ignore the long term consequences.

Me too. At some point soon the guy is going to go so far over the top that we can skip impeachment and just get to removal and incarceration.
