Wholesale retailer Costco announced Tuesday evening that they have reversed a decision to remove conservative filmmaker Dinesh DSouzas bestselling book from stores, following an outcry from thousands of angry customers.
Costco is not a book store. Our book shelf space is very limited, a statement posted on Facebook said. We exercise discipline in the best utilization of that limited space based solely on what our members are buying. We cant carry every title that our members are interested in reading. We are constantly monitoring book sales, and make decisions to pull books off the shelves frequently based on sales volume to make room for other titles. Politics or controversy over content do not influence our decisions.

watch it... he just might sue you... :)
exactly! and yet--that is who they want to please... not us God-fearing, church-going, homeschooling, hardworking conservatives... we are the ones who shop at wholesale stores... the Obamas do not shop there... not even before they "made it." the Clintons do not shop there... not even before the "made it."
screw Costco...
why would you do that? I’d prefer to show them that it pays to listen to their customers, and that the backlash worked.
Leaving aside that Costco’s top officers are liberals, they ARE businessmen first. It made no sense for the publisher to put the books on the Costco shelves a month before they started their promotional campaign and release of the movie. Costco’s whole business plan is based on high volume. Period.
...”Theyre too late - theyve already revealed themselves. But then, who needs a six-pack of Cheerios???”...
Exactly!
...”I wonder why there is literally no mention of BJs Wholesale Club as around here there are just as successful as Sams Club. Any reason why Sams is the go to place in spite of Costco?”...
Could it be that BJ’s Club is not in as many locations as Sam’s Club?
...”Money talks. Get the book somewhere else.”...
I bought two copies just today from Amazon.
being from California, i have been a Costco member for over 20 years... back when i became a member, we had Costco and Price Club as our options...
right now i am in North Carolina, and in our town we have Sam's Club and a brand new BJ's... i have never been to Sam's Club... but in my opinion, BJ's does not compare with Costco... Costco has a better meat department, bakery, prepared foods selection... more produce (maybe that is because i am in California when i shop Costco?)...
the one thing BJ's does offer that Costco doesn't is a deli--where you can buy meats and cheeses that are sliced right then and there for you...
in any case, Costco blew it... in the words of Beyonce' in Irreplaceable:
you must not know 'bout me, you must not know 'bout me... i can have another you by tomorrow so don't you ever for a second get to thinkin' you're irreplaceable...
We were going to make our meat run to Costco this week but now I don’t really feel the love.
Cisco Facebook “currently unavailable”
HeeHee.
They did. 700 copies spead over 464+ U.S. locations in the previous week. That works out to about about 1.5 books per location.
I going strictly by the numbers, it made sense to pull it at the time. Now thatthere is renewed interest, they are reordering, so people are now buying it in large numbers. I predicted this two days ago because Costco will stock any book that sells in sufficient numbers.

And the Beyonce stuff is exactly right on.
really? this book has been a selling success since its release on June 2... even though it was a top seller, the NY Times did not include it on their bestsellers list at first--when it should have been there according to sales... many saw this as very curious, suspicious... added to that, the press has not touched this book--even though it is highly popular...
as far as the movie, it has been well-received, generally... except by the media--what a surprise...
there is more to this then business decisions...
Those people dropping Costco for Sam’s will be back when they see how crappy Sam’s Club is.
Costco website down, too!
A true cockroach. When his atrocity hits the light of day, he scrambles. Too late.
ping... buy the book! but not at Costco... :)
Yahoo’s message boards are a favorite lefty hangout.
For those with a Yahoo account, it will only take seconds to navigate to the Yahoo message board for stock symbol COST. Thumb up the posts. Make lefty heads explode.
FReep on.
I don’t agree. I think the decision to reverse was forced on them strictly by the fear of financial loss, not by any sense of right v. wrong. They have not had a change of heart about their politics and will be looking to make amends for failing to topple sales of the book. To paraphrase the Terminator, “They’ll be back”. They have shown a willingness to do this kind of stupid crap and will do it again, just more quietly.
They can just go to the Hot Place.
Couldn’t find any in our area of Texas either.
That makes is better - not worse. It shows the retail world that conservatives have muscle. That we're the wrong people to mess with... but 'do right' by us and we're worth the effort. ... Trust me, it's good.
