President Barack Obama has offered to meet Texas Governor Rick Perry to discuss the border crisis during a visit to Texas after the governor declined a brief meeting when the president arrives in Austin, the White House confirmed on Tuesday.
"The president would welcome a meeting with you while he is in Texas," White House aide Valerie Jarrett wrote to Perry.
Jarrett also invited Perry to participate in a session to discuss the border situation with local faith leaders and elected officials in Dallas on Wednesday that has been added to president's schedule. Jarrett's letter, dated Monday, was first reported by the Austin American-Statesman newspaper.
Perry had declined an offer to greet Obama when he arrives in Austin, the paper said, citing a letter from the governor to the president. Obama is set to start his Texas trip on Wednesday.
"A quick handshake on the tarmac will not allow for a thoughtful discussion regarding the humanitarian and national security crises enveloping the Rio Grande Valley in South Texas," Perry wrote. He said he would prefer a "substantive meeting" to discuss the issue and would alter his schedule to accommodate the request.

Why meet with a liar? What’s the point of that? Obama’s words are meaningless.
It looks Obama The Prez and Jarrett, The Assistant Prez, are feeling the heat. Or do I have that backwards?
Perry should just hold a press conference with an empty chair next to him...
Obama is an enemy combatant to all true Texans. Why would we want to meet with one?
This "session" will consist of Obama and a minimum of 10 pro-amnesty officials shouting down Gov. Perry.
Tries to save face by at least meeting with Perry, for what that's worth.
I don't expect much help for Texas from the arrogant bastard.
Gov. Perry tried to give 0 bummer a letter on the tarmac at ABIA several years ago. bummer had an aid take it, and it probably had it shredded. bummer can stuff it. Perry refused to meet bummer again this trip.
Gov Perry, grow a pair and call out the Natl Guard and the state militias. Gov Perry, be a leader, do your job, forget about protecting your political rear end and DO WHAT IS RIGHT. YOU have the power to make things happen. If you do not protect the people of Texas, forget about your political future in Texas. We the People will not support you. Also remember that what you do OR not do, will affect us all, regardless of where we live.
Perry is just another supine GOP politican. When will one of them stand up to the bully?
I think the moment is right for someone to come forward and directly confront Obama. He is politically vulnerable on so many fronts. If someone would boldly step forward, it would be their ticket to political stardom IMHO.
Perry should call up the Texas National Guard and put them at the border. If Obama grumps he should really start to rant.
I wish Perry would call a press conference, and say “The President created this crisis, now he wants ME to fix it. He’s on his own.”
Or words to that effect.
"Don't worry, sir, I have to make a lot of noise to the press about all these poor refugees but I assure you no one in my state is going to get in their way."
Geeze. This border situation has been cooking for weeks, and Obama/ValJar wait until a couple of days before they are due to arrive to contact Perry and propose a “discussion”, while the visit to Texas has most likely been on HIS schedule for weeks or longer. This is all politics and campaigning, and would not be worth Perry’s time. If Obama was serious, this meeting would have been planned as such - not “gee, if you’re available, could we...”.
Obama can’t use vigilantes as a term for people who want the border secure. That one is taken.
Perry had a chance to lock up the Republican nomination...he blew it, and now the rest of the country knows why his nickname in Texas is "Governor Goodhair."
Shake hands with an enemy islamist, eh?
It’s good to know that sub-president valJJ is on the job pulling the strings for the campaigner in chief. Perry should decline the offer, it would cost him $34,000.00 to lunch with the loser.
If I was Perry I would have told Obama...I will only meet with you if you and Jarrett bring your resignation letters.
