GRAND PRAIRIE (CBSDFW.COM) - As Dallas County prepares to help with the overwhelming number of unaccompanied children crossing the border, one local city says its being left out.
We are just totally in the dark, said Grand Prairie Mayor Pro Tem Tony Shotwell.
A week ago, Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins publicly welcomed as many as 2,000 unaccompanied border children to North Texas.
Two days ago, he announced three possible locations to house the children once they arrive. One of which, the old Lamar Alternative Education Center, is located within the Grand Prairie city limits.
However, City of Grand Prairie leaders say theyre were never notified until hours before the site announcement made public.
The City of Grand Prairie sent a letter to Judge Jenkins and the Grand Prairie Independent School District asking why city leaders were not included in the discussion to make Lamar School a potential shelter site.
The stern letter, signed by the mayor, says going forward the city must to be included in all talks concerning sheltering the children, who are due here by the end of the month.
In the letter, the mayor writes whether its police or EMS, city services will be impacted once a shelter open.
Shotwell said his frustration at the process is no way reflects the citys stance on housing these children.
I want to really make this clear, he said. We will go into this with open hearts and open minds, but we have to know what we are going into.

Mr. Jenkins presides over the commissioner’s court circus, of which John Wiley Price is a vociferous member.
Race issues in Dallas are most interesting. Hispanics and blacks vie for power, neither groups trusts the other, but they’ll unite if asians get into the mix. For while, the Dallas School Board couldn’t meet because some of John Wiley’s folks would show up armed.
I’d really like to hear John Wiley’s take on the central American kids.
Much of Dallas is fine, and the outlying areas even better, but county and school governments have been a mess for years.
Oh OK then
it was the “judge” title that was confusing to this Tennessean girl...
:)
I thought they must have gone to court over the illegal aliens coming there or something and the “judge” had made a ruling..
Actually, this was announced without warning. There was no time for a court decision, even before a real judge.
Jenkins, as the top elected official in Dallas County, does have some responsibility in emergency management and coordinating with Homeland Security.
I don’t like him and wouldn’t vote for him, but it’s likely this was crammed down his throat.
Between that and having to work with John Wiley Price, he really should return to the private sector.
I thought it might have been done as an emergency measure etc...
suddenly he he was on the news official looking and yes even presidential..
He had a press conference and announced that the illegal aliens would be going to 3 different places...2 schools and a hospital and he named them..
since then the stuff has hit the fan and know Ive learnt that he did it on the sly and Obamaed them...
Dallas County flipped back to the dems in 2006, so there is only one republican commissioner and every other county elected office is held by democrats.
Texas has ports that the Navy could use to board and process the illegals.
Hawaii and Illinois: Does anyone know how many of the illegals are being flown to Hawaii and Illinois, Obama's "birth" state and adopted state?
If Obama is not sending any illegals to those states while he is sending them to other states, he should face a congressional hearing to explain why he is skipping Hawaii and Illinois.
Where is Rick Perry? Whining and moaning in front of the closest TV camera instead of doing something!
I don’t know but he was on a morning show today and said the illegal aliens have to go back..
If Perry had got onto this right away weeks ago he would have placed himself as a forerunner in 2016..
and wheres Willard the “leader” of the GOP ??? Probably still standing with his finger in the air...
Since Lamar is only about 4 miles from me, I’m pretty upset about this! I read yesterday they are sending them all over the country...why? To maximize the spread of disease all over the country? I don’t want any diseased children in school with my grandchildren. And no, I’m not racist! And how are all these cities supposed to pay for the housing, childcare, food, clothing, medical care, schooling, etc.?
They seem to be best buds. Wiley makes $70,000 per year as a Dallas County commissioner, and yet he has amassed a fortune through questionable kickbacks and storage units in South Dallas which at least one other commissioner has reason to believe that he is dealing in drugs and uses the storage units for distribution.
Clay and Ray are a couple of malignant cancers.
He was at the Dem convention when he was flapping his gums and sounding “presidential”.
I saw him on the news the other night and he was a little more humble.
But I do think Dallas County will accept his decree. Even Grand Prairie.
I don't remember the details but we had one who was milking it for all it was worth.
Growing up under it, you don't think of it as weird. When you get older and start comparing it to everywhere else....
What other state has a governor that CAN'T pardon criminals without permission from a board?
/johnny
I like that.
I wish the POTUS couldn't pardon...ESPECIALLY this one!
Could somebody please post that pic of all those Latino gangbangers?
Agreed.
Haley Barbour is the epitome of bribed pardons.
I can’t imagine who O will pardon!
South Dallas isn’t going to be happy with a hispanic influx.
*************************
Where is he planning to put the illegals in South Dallas, Johnny? .....You’re right about the blacks in South Dallas not liking such, if it happens.
