I researched this after a conversation with a student going door to door collecting to save the dolphins and to my surprise found the truth is very far from the mountain of plastic bags and foam cups the size of Texas floating in the mid Pacific the kid described.
Maybe they are counting zooplanktons and other micro-organisms?
Maybe PETA will take up the cause, I have been waiting for years for them to stand up for Yersinia Pestis’ rights.
Unfortunate that people believe fear mongering hype regarding this B.S.
Just yesterday had a client, while out fishing with me, ask me about all the “trash” floating in the water and asked if it was from Japan.
I explained what he was looking at was kelp and floating wood.
Seriously, I feel as if I spend more of my time re-educating people about facts vs hype rather than focusing on fishing.
I did the same thing if Florida years ago when some young skull full of mush came around collecting. After a few questions to him about the issue, it was painfully obvious that he knew nothing about it. I don’t know if I changed his mind or pointed him in a direction to do some looking of his own but I could hope I did.
Has anyone produced an actual photo of this mythical mountain of plastic. Apparently it is big enough to be seen from space.

I once found a bunch of trash on the Oregon coast; a lot of plastic bottles and containers from some Asian country. I don’t know how it got there.
and these same scientific illiterates have no problem slaughtering eagles, other birds, and bats by using their environmentally questionable, inefficient wind farms and killing people by forcing car companies to build lighter cars for efficiency.
Completely different topic, but I believe they found the same thing with the classic "You should drink 8 glasses of water a day". There is no basis for this. It may be a good idea, but there is no data which supports that number. It's just something people say.

I give anything for cars built without all of the electronics and safety BS, made of steel. They’d be simpler, easy to fix, and more fun to own.
I saw a ‘28 Model A for sale this weekend for 18,500. the engine was so simple anyone could repair it themselves. A simple car could likely be manufactured and sold for a small fraction of what new cars go for today.
The New England Journal of Medicine printed the “8 glasses of water a day” line in a study they did. It went on to point out that anything with water in it can be counted. Juices, coffee, tea and even cokes. But for some reason that part was never reproduced. Probably omitted by anti-capitalists. And as you know, doctors believe anything they read but they don’t read everything. They’re still pushing the low fat diet crap.
I recently had a urologist tell me 64 oz of water a day is way too much.
It is.
If they were in the engineering program that term would be referred to as SWAG (stupid wild ass guess)!
While my wife's urologist tells her that "it's almost impossible to drink too much water"
She easily drinks 6 to 8, 500Ml plastic bottles a day.
LOL! In my 36 years working of the space shuttle, there were more SWAGs than I can count.
Sorry. Disagree on this one. Have a good friend in merchant marine and over the years he has talked about, and shown me evidence of, the ruining of the ocean. I’ve also done a mountain of reading on this. This is killing the oceans.
Now of course, the Left will use these facts to do something bizarre, but that doesn’t make the underlying facts untrue
