I remember one nest if chiggers I got into as a boy. They infested my crotch area and itched so bad that I poured rubbing alcohol on freshly scratched areas. The burning was preferable to the itching.

I used coal oil, aka kerosene, on chiggers. Works really well.............and tobacco juice on the bites.............
